I live in Calgary (about 2 hours north of Lethbridge). All I can say is that I am sick of hearing about it.
As for her political position...
It is unlikely that the mayor will ask her to step down. There was talk of this but that would have been inapropriate until she was found guilty.
She was elected to office in 2001, they serve for a term of 3 years in lethbridge. That means they have an election coming this year. If she has the audacity to run, I really doubt she will get re-elected.
As for her sentence...
I think the general community feels pity for her. She is obviosly not right between the ears and that is too bad, but she seems to have done a good job as alderman so no one realy feels angry anymore. Other than some embarassment to the community and a large expense to some governments (Great Falls Police + Court of Queens Bench) she didn't really harm the public. We are all just tired of the whole situation.
Get her out of a position of public trust, get her out of public eye. After that she is just another nutcase of the many around.
As for her husband...
I hope he has really good reasons to be sticking around. He has stood by her through the whole thing. AFAIK, the police investigated him, but she never accused him. No harm there. Though why he would stay with her after finding this whole thing was to cover an affair... like I said, I hope he has a really good reason to be sticking around.
