Men's Health Article on "Idiot Male" Sitcom Roles

The Media Code Monkey writes "This month's Men's Health magazine includes an article about the way men are overwhelmingly portrayed as idiots and losers in today's sitcoms. While the author doesn't do much more than complain about this situation and offer examples of it, I do think this is a good sign that the issue is being discussed in a maintstream mag like Men's Health. The media does have an impact on our culture and we should care about the consistently negative portrayals of men as incompetent jerks on TV."

The denigration of men in the feminist controlled media seeks to destroy mens' sense of self-esteem. Once you destroy a person's self-esteem, you have effectively destroyed him. The effect is most marked in younger men and is one of the most important factors in the epidemic of young male suicide. Older men have a more secure sense of gender identity as it was fomed in the pre-feminist era.
The feminist objective is to instill in young men the idea that they are basically garbage. Simultaneously, certain aspects of traditional male conduct are presented as laudable and praiseworthy. Thus male against male violence is positively portrayed esp when the violence is carried out for the benefit of a woman. Other aspects of traditional male chivalry are also emphasised ( such as reacting passively to vicious verbal abuse if the abuser is female, sacrificing your life on behalf of a woman etc).

That's what I did... well... except for Stargate SG1 :), it seems to have no gender agenda at all (astounding these days), men are portrayed as strong, intelligent, compassionate, funny, sometimes jerks... pretty much just like real men. Women are also portrayed positively, but you don't see the lead female character beating up guys bare fisted (she does however throw a lot of lead around) and aside from some love interest stuff (blech) she's an interesting member of the team. If you at all like Sci-Fi it's pretty much the only game in town... and other than the History Channel and A&E (and the occasional cartoon network show with my boys) is just about the only thing I watch, I can't remember the last time I watched anything on network tv... it's been years (literally).

Aye, but it gets hard to turn off radio, newspaper, and everyone around us. Almost everything seems to have that tint of "men r stupid" perspective.
