News Serge writes ""A report from the US Justice Department also estimated 12 per cent of black men in their 20s and early 30s were in jail last year. [...] The US currently incarcerates more people than any other country in the world."" Articles like this prove our movement to be a moral imperative.

Many who own Jails or run prisons I hear are ex CIA administration types.

There is big money in housing men in the US. They target the weak and stupid.

While crime goes down, the excuse for imprisoning people goes up. Nice fucked up world we live in.

Yep-- a society is only as free as its weakest member, and small-town crooked politicians love to trump up charges against the poor and helpless in order to boost their poll-numbers while extorting money and slave-labor while pretending to be "tough on crime," knowing that "Justice for all" has long become nothing but a bullshit myth fed to human mushrooms who are likewise kept in the dark.

However, women are just as vulnerable in this regard, if not more so; local small-town government legal-thugs will snap at any chance to arrest and convict-- or extort a plea-bargain from-- anyone who doesn't have $5,000 for a decent private defense-lawyer instead of the judge's friend, the fellow thug from the Podunk Public Defender's office, often a dipstick from Alligator Central Law School; likewise, these thugs know full well that the person's only recourse against a crooked judge is to sit in a state prison and hope for an appeal, while even most private lawyers roll over for corrupt judges to save their own ass, and will likewise never sue the government or a fellow lawyer for even the grossest misconduct.

The American legal system is a lawyer's dream and a citizen's nightmare; the US spends only a tiny fraction on legal aid compared to other developed countries. As such, governments have often gone fascist in expanding their roles.
I'm not saying these people are innocent, but crime hasn't increased enough to account for this expansion; it's clearly the decline of liberty rather than the increase in justice.

Helping the huge number of men in prison, particularly black men, should be the #1 social justice priority in the US. Too bad the NY Times would rather write endless articles about rich female golfers who aren't allowed in a private, rich male golfers' club.

Men are treated like crap (put it in the can and flush), no question about it.

I guess the objective of this mania to build the world's largest and badest Stalinist Era style gulag in the US is to have 50% of the population in prison, parole or probation and the other 50% as loyal non questioning apparatchiks as guards or doing other administrative tasks to keep the gulag going.

"And we thought we lived in a rational civilized country?"

Not when it comes to the legal in-justice system, the most UN-representative place in America.

More than anyone, we can thank ol' honest Abe Lincoln: "Goverment of the lawyers, by the lawyers and for the lawyers."
