Man sues "Man show," and an Interesting Coincidence
posted by Scott on Tuesday December 24, @08:14AM
from the news dept.
News Thundercloud writes "I thought this would be an interesting submission, considering the recent post about the Phil Donahue show with Gloria Alred. A Man is suing the "Man Show". Aparently, this guy and his girlfriend were laying out on a beach (I believe in California) when producers from the Man Show sent a little boy to go up to them and talk to the man's girlfriend. While the camera rolled, the boy made rude and sexually explicit remarks to the young woman. The woman's boyfriend, disgusted, made the kid leave. Then two female "Man Show" producers approached the couple and told them it was all a joke and that they were on camera the whole time. According to the man, the "Man Show" producers did not have his permission to air the segment with him and his girlfriend, but they did so anyway. So now he is suing them. But guess who he got to represent him in court? None other than Gloria Alred! Does anyone think Alred's motives are to help a man who's been wronged? Or instead that she's probably been itching for an excuse to go after the politically-incorrect "Man Show" to begin with?"

The information given is kind of sketchy. Are there links to any news stories?

Although I may have suspicions. I would not speculate as to anyone’s motives without quotations and specific facts regarding the alleged events. The reporting of these few alleged details does, however raise a number of questions and points of consideration.

#1. Why did the woman not sue if there were "allegedly," sexually explicit and rude comments made to her?

#2. Why is the boyfriend suing instead of the woman to whom the comments where allegedly made?

#3. Where was the alleged damage to the boyfriend?

#4. Allegedly putting such an event on the air without the "written consent" of the person so allegedly, verbally accosted "appears" to raise very strong legal issues.

#5. What is worthy of emulation in someone (any person, any sex, any age) allegedly running up to another person (any person, any sex any age) and engaging in such behavior?

#6. What is defensible about such apparently, allegedly, "rude and offensive" behavior?

#7. Given the alleged facts presented thus far one of the apparent tragedies I see is the representative use of the word "Man" in affiliation with such allegedly obnoxious and offensive behavior.

The alleged event reminds me of the inane "shock jock" mentality that ungraciously demeans the apparent perpetrator of such vulgarity as much as, if not more, than the person such vulgarity is directed at.

I certainly have no personal liking for any such lawyer as you have referenced, but I find it difficult to fault her/him in bringing action against such allegedly despicable events as those described.

With that being said let the earthy, every day hard working man in the street add his two cents to this prim and proper attempt to present the affairs of men (the collective/representative lot) on a higher plane than that apparently depicted in some questionable, ratings driven, journalistic program.

Truly the reality of men today reads more like fiction than truth. A generation ago, the men living then, would never have believed the abominable level that radical feminists could so effectively have sunken our lot to. My senses are dumb struck with disbelief at the daily atrocities of injustice that our legal system dispenses to men merely for being men so I am highly skeptical of any adversary familiar to the legal arena that appears to have altered her philosophy.

It would be interesting to see if the actions, of a "fictionalized lawyer" similar to the one you mention in this alleged event, would be indicative of a new found magnanimity towards the injustices that men suffer. Could instead, the action taken by such a lawyeress, be just an opportunistic vehicle that would lead to the predictable modus operandi of legal maneuvers "she" would have normally engaged in?

Would this be the sincere, sympathetic philosophical conversion of an adversarial opponent? I have strong doubts. I'm from Missouri, show me. "Her" subsequent words and actions would reveal more than any suppositions posted here.

The aforementioned statements are just statements of personal opinions about hypothetical events and are not intended to convey belief that these are related to any actual events or persons occurring anywhere in reality.

Sincerely, Ray

I saw this episode of the Man Show. It was very funny. It was also harmless. And the producers of the Man Show did not need the couple's permission to air it because the couple was out in public. According to law, if you are filmed in public the person filming you is not required to get your permission to use the film.

Sorry that the info is so "sketchy".
I saw the report about this subject on one of the news shows. It was a fairly quick 'blurb', and I didn't have time to get a tape into the VCR, to record it.
One thing I forgot to mention in the origional submission, is that the man who is sueing the show is some guy who does TV commercials, and didn't want his "good name" smeared or his face assosiated with the "Man show".
I don't know. I've never seen him before. so maybe he does LOCAL commercials, or something.
Still, seems like a rather petty reason to sue.
But with Alred on the case, I have to wonder if this case will get "special consideration"...,
Who knows?
Later this evening, perhaps, I'll try an on-line search for more possible information on this.

I enjoy the man show. I hope that anon is correct is saying that it is legal to broadcast people without their permission if taken in public. The show is funny and glorifies the stereotypes of what people think men like. Beer, breasts, and football! Yeah! Okay, so that is part of what men like. ;>)

I love that it is so unashamed and willing to be completely politically incorrect. That part is surely refreshing. A show on the mature masculine wouldn't be very funny I suppose.

I am looking forward to what they will do to our Alred fembot. This is going to be hilarious. Can you imagine the skits that are being planned?? LOL!!! I think she may have bit off more than she can swallow.

I hope that I don't stand alone on this, but I think that the Man Show (admittedly, I've watched it only three times, and this goes back a few years) is unfunny, offensive, and -- far from being politically incorrect -- is PC all the way. I mean, what in today's society is more politically correct than presenting men as louts and doofusses with only two things on their minds, i.e., boobs and beer? Yeah, I know that this is just a stereotype, but it's a stereotype that is as stupid and unfounded as anything can possibly be -- a pure and unmitigated debasement of men -- and it offends the hell out of me.

I have to think that feminists love the Man Show; it affirms what they've been hatefully spouting for years: men are little more than testosterone driven social cretins, forever stuck on the lower rungs of the evolutionary ladder.

As men, we're constantly fed the message that we need to learn to laugh at ourselves -- hopeless, incompetent dolts that we are. Sit down in front of the TV on any night of the week watching any of the major networks and that message comes through loud and clear in program after program. Yup, we men are such fools (sometimes lovable in spite of it, though, eh? ... yuk yuk), lost and floundering in this world if not for the good, wise, and altogether morally superior women in our lives showing us the way.

If I don't have a sense of humor, well then, fine. It's just that I am so sick and tired of the popular media (TV programming in particular) and its relentless onslaught against the dignity and worth of men, and I see the Man Show as one of THE WORST offenders.

The Man Show was invented to make fun of that stereotype. Not confirm it.

Actually, feminists hate it because it exploits women.

I agree with your statements conserning "Men need to be able to laugh at themselves."
On the surface I have no problem when someone says something like that. But when this is said it appearantly means; "Men need to be able to laugh at themselves... No matter how bad or damageing the "ridicule"". So in effect, what we as men are REALLY being told is; 'we need to be able to HATE ourselves.'
That said, I often wonder why it is that we never hear women told; "Women need to be able to laugh at themselves."
If any image on TV or movie depicts a female in even the remotest degree of 'mockery' the producers are immediately labled as "anti-female"!
Yet we are barraged daily by images of men being beaten to bloody pulps, cut down with automatic weapons, hit, kicked and punched in the genitals. belittled, de-huminized, humiliated and beaten up by women (and even kids in some cases) and other wise riced, sliced and diced like there's no tomorrow. And despite the impact this has on men's psyche, and on children, particularly boys We are told again and again to; "LAUGH AT OURSELVES"!!!
Yeah, I guess when the Nazis were annihilateing the Jewish people, or at the very least running horrific propaganda films about them, everyone should have told those Jewish folks; "You need to laugh at yourself..."
And in the 200 years of genocide, "re-location" stereotypeing and endless mockery that my people (American Indians) have endured, I guess me and my people should ALSO learn to "laugh at our selves.".
To those people who tell me and other men to "laugh at ourselves" I can only say this...; Only evil people laugh at the de-huminization of their fellow human beings. No decent, person with any degree of self respect thinks HATE is a laughing matter. Hate brings pain, then it brings death. Take it from someone desended from a people who know.
There's NOTHING funny about hate...,

Why is everyone so enthralled with a boring, no talent media gadfly gasbag like Gloria Alred? (sp? Who Cares!)

We should all adopt the mind set of Michael Jackson when she made an insinuating comment in the media about his alleged "baby dangling" incident. He simply said upon learning of her criticism, "She (Gloria Alred) could go to hell!"

Sounds like a winner to me!

Because for years the media has gone unceasingly to her for her biased opinions on a number of gender issues.

It is a sad commentary on our times that the one sided opinions of this verbose attorney have had such a negative influence on the men of our nation.

It is important to refute the biased viewpoints of this individual every time she opens her mouth.

I fear we will need a large number of men to meet that mammoth task.
