NH Men's Commission Sponsor Re-Elected
posted by Scott on Thursday November 07, @03:28PM
from the news dept.
News Anonymous User writes "In August and September, this site ran articles about David A. Bickford, who was running for re-election to the New Hampshire House. He won. Read about it here." That's correct - David was the primary sponsor of the NH Commission on the Status of Men bill, and due to his district changing, he had a lot of concerns about being re-elected. In the end, he actually received the most votes in the new district (of which the top eight candidates receive seats), so he couldn't have done better. Thanks in part to some of the generous donations that went to him after pleas for help appeared on this site.

Glad to hear that David Bickford won his election. He deserves it! I hope we can continue to support him.

Didn't I also hear that your governor took a loss in the senate race? The men's commission stacker? Our local feminist congressperson Connie Morella was DEFEATED by a man who is a now our congressman but also a father and kids soccer coach. The fems are falling like flies.

This is, indeed, great news. How did Shaheen, or whatever her name is, fare in the election?

We have a long way to go, but this is true. I've been looking forward to this day for decades (much of that time with little or no hope). The screeching of genfem harpies is now music to my ears.

Hi Tom,

Yes, NH Gov. Jeanne Shaheen lost her Senate race. I'd like to think it was at least in part to some of the bad press she received over the men's commission fiasco. In fact, just last Friday she was on NH public radio and a caller took her to task on her anti-male stance, and brought up the Scott Hampton nomination issue. I was glad to see her on the defensive and having to confront that issue just days before the election.

For the men's equality movement to be successful, it is vital to establish a "Mens' Vote". For decades, political parties and politicians have recognised ( and feared ) the "Womens' Vote". THe absence of a Mens' Vote caused politicians to treat mens rights with total contempt. These electoral results may be a small step for the politicians concerned , but maybe a giant leap for men's equality.

Only until her current term ends in Janaury. Our new governor will be Craig Benson. I have to wonder if Shaheen will make one final swipe at us before she leaves, since the NHCSM still has one seat left to be filled, and she could nominate the person before she leaves office. Now that the election is over, she has nothing to lose.

Take heart though, I understand that houses fall on women like Shaheen while they are rideing their brooms. (^_^)

Reading this brought a smile to my face. Of course it's too early to say that feminism is on the way out, but there seem to be more and more people deciding that they've had enough of its excesses. I know it all seems very piecemeal at the moment, but I suspect that it'll end in a catastrophic implosion of the entire rotten edifice. Should be most entertaining.

Uberganger asked: "Remind me again of the origin of the word 'hysteria'."

Actually the origins of this word are ancient. They can be traced to "his steria" and upon further analyses breaks down to "his stereo." This of course is the passionate and often times overzealous love and possessiveness of a man for his musical reproduction system. ;>)

Okay, okay, --

The root hyster- comes from the Greek word for womb. So, the psycholological disturbance termed hysteria was originally believed to be a disease of women and resulted from some disturbance in the uterus. Its origin is in the late 17th century.

Some clarifications on the press release I read.

With all three branches of government controlled by one party united behind a single agenda, opportunities for advances in Congress are limited

Translation: "Our federal funding may dry up."

Fighting for our rights will be much harder now, but we bring to it all the passion, determination and courage that these difficult times demand

Translation: We may have to actually back up the fradulent stastics we throw around.

And as our numbers double, watch out George Bush -- here comes trouble.

Translation: We may have to rely on actual contributions for our survival. Someone rich please bail us out.

That makes much more sense NOW!

It is bothersome that NOW endorsed him for this election. I have yet to find out why they did this and why they would desert Morrella who was one of the originators of VAWA and has been feeding them for years. My hope is that they saw how hopeless morella's campaign was due to the redistricting and simply hitched their wagons to the one they knew would win. We will see.

One of the first things I will ask him...if it's not too late...is to support the freaking men's health commission. Morella ignored my requests for this for YEARS! Good riddance!

Good News:

Bickford got the most votes of any of the candidates.

Bad News:

In the write up about the winning candidates no mention was made of Bickford's heroic efforts at getting the Men's Commission established. Only some bland comment about accessing insurance. Which could be extrapolated to mean that the media in New Hampshire anyway, still does not recognize men's rights issues as newsworthy or even that they exist. But things are changing fast in this regard and the media better get with it.

Right now, I'd rather have effective but stealthy support for the men's movement so that it can grow quietly in the legislative staffer's conference rooms. I must say that I agree with Frank here. It is much better to keep the news media out of the loop with few exceptions.

As I always my buddies at NCFM, LA, make them beg for the news. Ignore them. Make them crawl on their knees! When they want it bad enough they will come running. For now it's a good thing that we operate in the stealth mode.

I do have one suggestion, though:

Whoever can stay close to this man and get him to quietly identify other sympathetic legislators ought to do so. Find out who will listen and what things will make them listen better. (Votes are obvious, but there might be other things as well.) I think it might have been Warble or Marc mentioned that there are companies who are certainly interested in things like prostate cancer screening because it will give thier products exposure. Keep the media in the dark about all this.

As for the media, like Luek said, They'd better get with it.

They can either lead, follow or get trampled.
