Governor of Virginia Has Never Heard of Paternity Fraud

Reproductive Rights Mark writes "Governor Mark Warner was on AM 1140 today in Richmond, Virginia taking calls from the listening audience. I called to see if he has or knows of any plans in the Virginia legislature to pass Paternity Fraud laws similar to those in other states. After explaining it to the screener I was put on hold for a few minutes. Eventually the screener came back and said that he will save me the time because the governor NEVER HEARD OF PATERNITY FRAUD, but claims he (Governor Warner) did say that "Fraud is Fraud." Perhaps he never did hear of it. If that is the case, I would love to inform him of it. Does anyone have or know of any god draft letters for politicians? I like to think that he wasn't dodging because he knew that it would be hard to defend why such laws shouldn't be passed."

Please, folks. Toss out a few suggestions -- examples of paternity fraud, states which have laws about the crime, whatever. Please be concise. I'll post a letter ASAP that anyone can send verbatim or with changes as they see fit.

I have a 20 page document on the matter. It needs more refining however. Then we can post it as a reference.

Well, I haven't gotten any suggestions, but if you want to contact Gov. Warner, you can take a look at this site. If you scroll down to "Stop Paternity Fraud Petition" you can follow the link (you can't go directly) to a petition that has some good facts. In fact, the entire site has some good facts.

BTW, I find it difficult to believe Gov. Warner hasn't heard of paternity fraud. The recent Georgia statute against it got a lot of press, and Warner's neighboring state, Maryland apparently has a law against it as well.

1. Universal DNA testing of BOTH parents at birth (or shortly thereafter) and state insistence on the both parents being documented on birth certificate.

2. Abolish legal anonymous procreation (anonymous egg or sperm donation)

3. Abolish legal closed adoptions with with no access to the identity of one or both bio-parents. Abolish single signatory adoptions.

I originally favoured this one, but to many people complained about giving government to much information. Building data bases etc...

<<2. Abolish legal anonymous procreation (anonymous egg or sperm donation)>>

Wow, as a mediator I would make millions on this one alone.

<<3. Abolish legal closed adoptions with with no access to the identity of one or both bio-parents. Abolish single signatory adoptions.>>

Wow you got balls Lori, I hear Rosie O'Donnell is on the warpath, I'd be careful for a while in case she see's this post.

The child has a right to know its parents, but this will create a lot of "state" policing and enforcement agencies.

Which I hate. Difficult one's to balance.

What exactly is a single-signatory adoption? Does that indicate one biological parent or one adoptive parent?

Oh, that's easy. That's where a woman doesn't like a man enough to have/raise a child with him, but is thinking with her genitals when the child gets concieved.

Then, when she turns up pregnant she conceals this from him, refuses to identify the father, and puts it up for adoption, thus exercising her choice after the fact to terminate her parental rights - a choice men do not have.

I meant by that only one biological parent being legally able to put a child up for adoption without the consent of the other biological parent.
