There are times I am not a fan of statuatory rape laws --esp when they are rigidly enforced on older teens (who might be legal in some states and countries) and other teens or early 20's adults. But this one is a no-brainer. You have a 13 year-old boy, and a 42 year-old woman. He was in her class, thus giving a direct problem with coercion, and power-imbalance. Last, but not least, this wasn't a one-time affair (bad as that would have been) but an on-going sexual relationship that lasted 6 months!
Remember those whiny commercials about 15 year old girls (legal in some places) being impregnated by 25 year old men, and just how outrageous this was suppossed to be? Imagine had it been 42 year old men! Even if they really loved (or thought they did) these gals, the call would have been to string em up by their balls! And this woman gets 3 measly years. A 25 year old man with a two year older girl would have been lucky to get less than 15. This is disgusting.

three years? i thought it said 5 to 10 which would imply somewhere around 7 or 8. oh, wait...
As part of her deal with prosecutors, she pleaded guilty to sexual assault, a second-degree offense that carries a prison sentence of five to 10 years. Prosecutors in turn agreed to treat the offense as a third-degree crime, which carries a minimum prison term of three years and a maximum of five years, Rockfol said.
oh. right. i forgot. she'll get the absolute mimumum of the shortest time frame possible. how naive of me.

Techincally would it not be harder for a female to rape a male than the other way around?
If we agree or can prove that this is true, then would it not require more force? More evil intent? More pure effort?
Would this then in most cases be then, a more serious crime?

I was once told of a story of a rape case where the defense attorney approach the victim on the bench holding a needle and thread. The attorney handed the victim the thread and he held the needle. He directed her to try to insert the thread into the needle. Every time she got close, he moved the needle. He was trying to convince the jury that no woman can be raped unless she wants to be. Suddenly, a man in the gallery stood up and yelled, "I'll bet if I held a gun to your head, counselor, you'd hold the damn thing still!" The judge immediately ordered the man removed from the court room and instructed the jury to ignore the comments made by the man. The same could be said if the gender roles were reversed. Would it not be just as hard to place the eye of the needle over a moving thread?
The thing is, what is the threat? And what are the conditions of confinement? The recent episode of CSI on this very subject showed that it is no harder to rape a man than it is a woman when the conditions of confinement can be enforced. However,I do suspect that there are men who would not be erect in such an episode, while this matters little where the victim is a woman.
Gaining political support for making the penalty for rape of a man by a woman more severe than rape of a woman by a man is not likely to float. On the other hand, demanding that sentencing be uniform is an acheivable goal.

and if she's pregnant following that rape, he pays child support. We've seen this before.

alright. here's the battle plan. we go out and rape a couple of young boys, adopt some children and attempt to pass them off as the boys' offspring (ie: paternity fraud). then we force these youngsters into a life of slavery through child support! who's with me!?!

So, if this is New Jersey, will she be required to register under Megan's Law? And even if she does, will anyone even notice?

Umm, Mary Kay Letourneau, anyone?
I have heard the most ridiculous ways for women to get men to pay child support. One woman filled a turkey baster from a freshly-used condom and impreganted herself with it. The guy had to pay child support! So unfair! "Female men's activist" is not an oxymoron.

Are you sure this has really happened? Most places have laws which deem a sperm donor to be a non-parent. Also, any conception not involving intercourse is generally regarded as artificial and the father as therefore the donor.
