Terminally Ill Boy Asks for Sex as Dying Request

News donaldcameron1 writes "In an article in Canadian newspaper The National Post we are informed of the honored last request of a dying young man for sex with a woman. I'm ambivalent about this and wonder if I (one) would respond differently if this was a female adolescent making the request. Do we as a group have an elucidated opinion?" This is an interesting and unusual dilemma, what do you think?

Given that procreation is such a large part of our lives, and that sex is such a large part of that, I would be inclined to allow the granting of this last request no matter who asked.

I tend to agree on this one. People overall seem to have a preoccupation with sex. Teenage boys, particularly, can suffer at the thought of never losing their virginity.

I say grant his wish. And if the wish were that of a girl in similar circumstances, grant her wish as well.

I'm with Nightmist and Frank. These are extremely extenuating circumstances.

Are you sure this is not an urban legend?

I think it was this time last year when a similar story was going around about another dying boy who wanted to shoot and kill a bear as his dying wish.

Damn nearly missed this topic...

There is a movement called sexual surrogacy which deals with these kinds of issues in general, basically advocating sexual activity as a basic human right for people who otherwise cannot find a sexual partner or sustain a sexual relationship for various reasons.

One article I read a while back but now can't find was a male psychologist who advocated sexual surrogacy programs in homes for mentally and/or physically disabled people. Apparently in his research he found that patients who's families arranged sexual surrogate services were happier, less agitated and violent, and more adaptable to improvement in their conditions or physical abilities. There were some physically disabled people (both male and female) who were unable to even masturbate. Therefore, the doctor adovated sexual surrogates for either sexual intercourse or assistence with masturbation for such patients in long term care facilities based on the notion of sex as a basic human right. The hospitals of course were against it on "moral" grounds. It was a fascninating article, though it dealt with adults, not children, seems applicable to this boy's situation.

I found these articles which deal more with sexual surrogacy used as a treatment in psycho-sexual/social disorders .... intimacy training etc.

A good movie on the subject is ____ Bliss.
