Afghan Women Speak Out for Afghan Men
posted by Scott on Monday December 03, @08:54AM
from the news dept.
News Neil Steyskal submitted this article about some women from Afghanistan who are challenging the U.S. media's portrayal that men are dominating tyrants in Afghan families. It was an excellent, rare article and we should praise the Washington Post for printing this story. Comment to: letters@washpost.com.

The article says that 60% of Afghans are female. I guess it's them women-hating Talibans at work.

The same article showed up in my local paper, the Times of Trenton, and I was happy to see it there. As for the 60%, it's probably true what with all of the indiscriminate killing of men and boys, further evidence that men are the more oppressed segment.

Yes. But remember, Frank: the men - to use Cathy Young's words - are oppressed as "full-fledged citizens", whereas the women must endure their oppression while being "effectively barred from public space". This makes a big difference in some people's minds! ;-)

I hear ya' Hawth, but I'm not sure it makes much difference to the dead.

Cheers,

Frank
