Weekends Peak Time For Men's Heart Attacks

Men's Health There's been a tremendous amount of focus on women and heart disease in the media lately, which is surprising when you consider that men have traditionally been more likely to die from heart disease than women. This story on Excite News examines some potential reasons why men are more likely to get heart attacks on weekends rather than during the week.

Where's the mystery? These men die on weekends primarily due to an increase in nagging from the spouse. :-)

The theory of "sedentary lives" during the week made sense. However, I just hope nobody tries to use this to justify reserving all the "comfortable" jobs for women based on the conclusion that men need to be stressed out as much as possible during the week to maximize our tolerance to physical exertion during the weekend.

It's kind of like this other report I was just reading in a mini-magazine that comes with my newspaper. It was a survey on how college students' behavior is seemingly affected by what kind of decor they have in their dorm rooms. The survey found that girls with a sofa in their dorm were more likely to study, whereas boys with a sofa were less likely (or become "couch potatoes", as the report put it). So, are colleges going to use this to justify making boys' dorms like jail cells and giving the women all the furniture because comfort, for males, is apparently a bad thing? Just a thought.

Also, too, I wonder if anybody noticed that, among the list of links to other articles running down the right of the page, there was a link to an article about dating violence being experienced equally by both boys and girls. It reminded me of a similar article posted here not too long ago that focused entirely on teenage girls and dating violence. I skimmed over the article and it seemed like a more fair and balanced view on things. And here's the link to it.

Oh, and P.S. - For those of you who know what I'm talking about, I submitted my letter to Ann Landers, castigating her for her advice to that guy whose wife was playing the computer game all the time. I'm still waiting for a response. If I don't get one, then I'll share the letter I sent with the rest of you, but I want to wait first and see if I can get a response to go with it.

Actually, I had read somewhere that it was usually Monday morning, and that seemed to be derived from work-related stress.

Thanks for pointing that out, Hawth. I generally try to look down the list of links for every Excite story I post, but I missed that one somehow.
