in a society calling itself 'civilized', witch trials would/should be both abhorrent and ill conceived. and yet, here we see how a blind eye is turned when the victim is male. how quickly the prey becomes the hunter when compassion is perceived as weakness. the lesson here is, change one's demeaner and one's station in life quickly follows. that is not 'civilized'. that is but one of the harshest lessons of the jungle. perhaps we are not 'civilized' at all, but merely grand apes mimicking what we perceive to be true.
