A New Candidate for the Boycott List Emerges

I was recently watching television, and I couldn't help but notice a new Molson Canadian commercial. This ad has had a few predecessors, in which a man who claims that Canadians have bad taste when it comes to beer is tied up and put on an airplane, put in the path of a raging bull while holding a red flag, and wrapped in plastic wrap from head to toe, with marker marks all over his face. These ads weren't too bad, in fact, I would even consider them comical. But this new ad, in my opinion goes too far. In this new commercial, it shows the same man tied up to a hockey net. Four targets appear in the exposed corners of the net, then the caption "Take Your Shot at MolsonCanadian.ca", and a fifth target on the man's crotch appears. I rolled my eyes when I saw this, because I think it's sad that people still consider this type of thing to be comedy. Will they ever make a commercial with a woman strung up to a hockey net, with a target on her crotch? It's extremely unlikely, even though the same scenario is less painful for a woman. Looks like the old double standard monster has struck again.

Ed. note: Anyone have a link to a video of this ad?

I decided to see what the flash game was like, and surprise surprise, if you hit the guy in the crotch you get the most points. It's called an "organ grinder". When are people going to grow up? The character was actually proven right as a result of this ad being made, as people who would buy a product that encourages sexual violence against men clearly must have no taste.

"It's extremely unlikely, even though the same scenario is less painful for a woman."

Actually, it's about as equally painful. I cover sports, and I know that a woman/girl being struck in a certain place "down there" can be just as debilitating as it happening to a man/boy. The reason that you see so much of the latter and not the former as "comedy" isn't because the same thing doesn't hurt women, but that those who find men in pain to be funny have a much sterner approach with regard to women in pain. My vote, of course, would be to stop showing it happening to ANYBODY.

I agree it is bizarre to see that some people in the advertising biz still think hitting a man in the groin area is comedy. Unfortunately, it was probably male (maginas) ad execs who thought this would sell the product..Duh!

Gotta call them on it.

First off, to see the ad I'm referring to, go to MolsonCanadian.ca, enter your birthdate, then click on the "Road Hockey Revenge" game. In the game there's a link to the ad.

To send Molson your comments regarding this misandry, click on this link. I sent them the following letter:

I've watched your string of ads with a man talking about Canadians having no taste when it comes to beer and being punished in several comedic ways; in the first he was tied to a chair and placed on a plane, in the second he was put in the path of a raging bull while holding a red flag, in the third, he was wrapped in plastic wrap from head to toe with marker marks on his face. You may notice I didn't include the latest ad in this list. That's because I don't find it funny at all. In this latest ad, the man is tied to a hockey net with his legs open, and a target appears on his crotch, as does a link to a flash game on the Molson canadian website. In this game the player gets the most points if they perform an "organ grinder", that is if they shoot the ball with the hockey stick, and hit the target on the man's testicles. I find it disturbing that ads like this, as well as games like this, are allowed to be made when they not only glorify the sexual abuse of men, but they actually encourage it! I don't think Kevin Russ, who needed more than 50 stitches to repair the damage to his scrotum as a result of a malicious attack by Rebecca Dawson would find this ad and game amusing, and neither do my many MRA(Men's Rights Activist) friends. I have purchased Molson products in the past, but I have chosen not to do so until both the misandric ad and flash game are removed from the airwaves and the Molson website respectively. My thousands of MRA friends via the Mens Activism Network will also be sure to boycott your products until this criteria is met. You could never get away with encouraging this kind of abuse towards women, blacks, jews, hispanics, or any other group that's protected by hate crime legislation, so why is it okay if it's a white male? I think you will find there is no good answer to that question. Please see to it that the proper action is taken, so I can continue to enjoy Molson products again. (end of letter)

Please help me get this misandric ad pulled, brothers!

Thanks for your co-operation.

P.S. I think that men who find this type of abuse funny don't realize that they're feminists trapped in men's bodies. Cause no self-respecting man could laugh at that type of thing happening to another man. BTW, I guess you're right, Boy Genteel. I agree, they shouldn't show it happening to anybody, male or female.

I smell politically correct bile..

I agree, they shouldn't show it happening to anybody, male or female.

I disagree. If I can get a woman to agree to it I will place the same thing on my website but with a woman getting things hit at her rather than a man.

Let them see how it feels for once.

I think you're right, MR. I wasn't completely agreeing with Boy Genteel, just agreeing that it would hurt for a woman to get hit down there. Clearly, it would be more painful for a man, as there's more nerve endings. I agree with your flash game idea. It sounds like a good sociological experiment. You'll see the disgust in people's reactions, then ask them why they have no problem playing the same type of game where a man is the victim. It seems the only way to make people see the light sometimes is to put a woman in the same scenario. Don't forget to put a bullseye on her boobs and crotch. BTW, I checked out your site, and it's nice! Keep up the good work. You're definitely helping our cause.

...not sure why biological reality is being dismissed as "politically correct drivel." I understand why you'd want to "switch the genders and see how people react." That's my own approach to most of this crap, too, but I try to make it clear that I'm kinda sorta on the side of no human beings being abused, rather than all of them.

The double standard on this "groin business" (I won't even label it as "humor") exists mostly for two reasons:

1. The idea that men aren't worthy of the same compassion or protection that women are...that seeing women in pain isn't funny at all but seeing men in pain IS. That one we all should be fighting against every day...

2. That men are somehow inferior in that part of the body, that the sensitivity in that area of the body is a "guy thing." It's seen as one more way to poke fun at men and boys (not that laughing when someone is in agony should be considered okay by anyone's standards). But women, in fact, are also quite vulnerable "down there." They do make women's athletic supporters, you know. (It's not exactly a cup; I guess you would call it more of a saucer.)

At any rate, we should continue to put the heat on any television show/movie/ad/whatever that is still presenting this as funny. If they tell you to "lighten up," ask if they're going to have something similar about a woman's body. When they tell you you're "sick," tell them that hurting a woman and hurting a man are both sick. (Then they'll tell you to "lighten up" again. They vacillate so much it's amazing they don't fall down.)

not sure why biological reality is being dismissed as "politically correct drivel."

ADVICE: Using "biological reality" in your sentence does not make it appear anymore believable. Nor does a few paragraphs about nothing.

In closing:

A woman getting kicked between her legs is not "just as painful" as a man having the same done to him. Also, a man is much more likely to experience problems as a result of groin strikes.

Either way I know you Modus Operandi -- it does not differ much from the feminist drivel -- and I have no more time to be wasting here chatting with one who seems extremely enamored with the female gender.

I believe that the televisions should create some special commercials with promotional mugs because I am sure that it would be better than the things that the actual commercials present.

It sounds like a really bad commercial. Canadians don't have a bad taste for beer anyway. It sounds like a very low budget advertisement.
