RADAR Alert: Tell "Media Matters" the Truth About Domestic Violence

In his latest Fox News debate, VAWA Reform Coalition member, Marc Rudov stated that HHS and CDC statistics show women and men commit domestic violence equally. The website "MediaMatters for America" has responded by calling Marc a liar.

In actual fact, the latest CDC research, indicates that women are as violent, if not more violent than men. In March 2007, the peer-reviewed scientific journal, "American Journal of Public Health" published a report by Centers for Disease Control researchers Whitaker, Haileyesus, Swahn, and Saltzman entitled "Differences in Frequency of Violence and Reported Injury Between Relationships With Reciprocal and Nonreciprocal Intimate Partner Violence".

This research analyzed data on 11,370 young heterosexual adults aged 18 to 28. About half of the violent couples reported that both partners were violent to one another (reciprocal violence). Of the violent couples in which only one partner was violent (non-reciprocal violence), the woman was the perpetrator in 70% of the cases.

Yet the comments at the MediaMatters website are uniformly self-righteous and hateful toward men. The readers of this website need to be informed of the facts. You can add your own comment by going here. Scroll to the bottom to post a comment. You will first need to sign up for a free account.

The MediaMatters webpage has a "Take Action" section on the right where they encourage their readers to complain to Fox News about Rudov's supposedly inaccurate information. So after you've posted your comment on the MediaMatters webpage, it would be a good idea to also send your comment to Fox news at Comments-at-foxnews.com.

Comments

I encourage everyone to read the comments by Media Matters posters linked to the article.

You will quickly observe the usual accepted pop-misandry via name calling and the tired "shame-and-blame" techniques.

Marc Rudov -- "is a cretin, has a tiny penis, is a pussy (isn't that a biological impossibility?), hates women, got smacked around by a female, can't get laid, is a knuckle-dragging cave dweller," etc. etc.

The comments are solid proof that feminists and manginas cannot muster a logical argument, and have to resort to the lowest common denominator of sexist foolishness.

If it weren't for VAWA's billions, feminism would die a very natural death, immediately following shutting off the taxpayer-funded racketeering.

Lis lives in a fantasy world in which facts determine the outcome of legal proceedings. They don't. The women who assault the men won't go to jail; they'll just concoct an abuse excuse in order to get off.

Answer: ALL of these outlets exist only to spew the propaganda associated with some political movement. It could be neoconservative in some cases, ultra-liberal in others, identity politics (sexism, nationalism, racism, religious issues) in others. The point is, there isn't one single, useful "fact" presented on any of those sources that isn't intended to further a propaganda campaign.

That makes the "content" one obtains from those sites both meaningless and useless, which is why I'm not overly concerned by anything said on FOX News OR MediaMatters.org. They're BOTH entirely nonsensical - nothing more than second-rate propaganda mills for their political masters.

Hence the reason I'm not exactly surprised by the fact that MediaMatters.org and its readership feel that 4.8 million reported assaults against women and 2.9 million assaults against men, according to their own cherry-picked sources means that only men can be perpetrators, and that only women can be victims. Nice to know what MediaMatters.org thinks of the millions of abused men out there, and men in general, isn't it?

OK, let's suppose that these sexists are right, and there are only 2.9 million DV assaults against men each year. We won't point out that crime victimization surveys are NOT an accurate indicator of the prevalence of DV, and that these are the most common route to calculating DV statistics. We won't even correct for the much lower rate at which men report violence against them, or add in the millions of violent and sexual assaults against men in prisons (their "domestic" environment) every year. Even so, that means that 38% of DV happens to men according to MediaMatters.org and the CDC! That sure sounds "equal-opportunity" to me, since we know that men are less likely to report violence against them, and that these figures completely neglected the domestic violence against the roughly 2 million men housed in America's prisons.

How does that not translate into AT LEAST equal opportunity, again? Oh, I forgot, they're using political arithmetic, where 5 is 4 and 2+2="women are victims". What a shame that they can only attract female readers by spewing "you're a victim, you poor girls" at every possible opportunity, whether the facts support that assertion or not.

In another case, 38% men would surely be "equal opportunity" to the morons over at mediamatters.org. That's right, I'm talking about education, where men make up less than 40% of the students at the university level. Ever hear them bitching about how that isn't "equal opportunity"? No, I didn't think so. It would offend the poor, poor, self-proclaimed victims of everything who are reading their tripe.

Let's sink to their level for a moment, OK?

Maybe they'll join CNN and pimp the "Vote Hillary" campaign, and America will have its first victim President, and its first president who is demonstrably guilty of a felony prior to their inauguration, i.e. the domestic violence she committed against Bill Clinton on several occasions. But that won't matter to the Hillary fanatics now, will it? She has a vagina, so she's an innocent victim, right guys?

See how politics makes an argument meaningless?

Recall that all the statistics RM cites above were BANNED from consideration last year when VAWA 2005-2010 was reauthorized, and Joe Biden chaired the feminist pappy-show in committee to deliberately prohibit any testimony by gender-neutral researchers, let alone mens & fathers rights advocates.

When one side gets over $1.5 billion of taxpayer's money each year to fuel its propaganda machine and the other side is trying to raise enough money to pay for this month's web server space ---

well, that's also just another facet of feminist
"ek-wallet-y."

If you have not yet obtained one, sometime between now and the 2008 presidential election would be a good time to acquire a passport.

...using their jobs to account for all of the teasing they had to endure when they did not have the badge. I've seen a few of them straight -- by upstanding men that don't fear government tyranny -- since they tend to treat men like criminals even when one is not guilty of anything.

Thus, I can see why a good deal of them play "tough guy" when they become public servants. It's like therapy for some of them. Indeed some cops are ok, but some are complete morons.

mr. reality...most cops are simply doing what the TV. tells them!!

..cops like most middle educated people are simply subject to the propaganda that they see around them!!..

critical thinking is becomeing a quant thing of the universities of yesteryear!!

Alot of men..(because of constant women as victim agit-prop) hold all other men in suspicion...And they think to themselves (Like 99% of the misled male population) that they are in fact the real ...protectors of women!!.

..these men will choke out young boys, 8, and 9....will shackle and railroad them to jail on a "RAPE" accussation if they think it will feed their perversion for more female attention!!

The esteemed David R. Usher of the "pro-marriage movement" just posted a new piece over on MND that strongly suggests that he read the posts on this site before composing his article.

It's a credible bit of writing, again retelling how feminism and VAWA rely upon deliberately falsified domestic violence statistics to fuel the gender war against men and fathers.

Have the mods here had any direct correspondence with Mr. Usher?

I appreciate how well he writes, but my disagreements with his fundamental theory that more marriage is somehow "good" for men got me banned from MND long ago.

In my apparently impolitic view, the last thing men need is more indentured servitude to the matriarchy via matrimonial shackles disguised as "pro-family-return-to-the-fifties" nonsense.

I've read everything Mr. Usher has written on the 'Net, and I still do not see how his particular prescription for the future of men's rights in any way benefits men.

Marriage, like many of society's constructs, is designed to be slavery for men from puberty to grave. That's not to say that there aren't equitable, happy marriages out there, just that such successful and mutually beneficial arrangements are definitely not by design.

How anyone claiming to be a member of the men's movement could support that slavery is utterly incomprehensible to me. After the tax and social benefits systems in our countries, marriage is the principal mechanism by which wealth and the proceeds of labor are transferred from the slaves (men) to citizens (women) in our society. I'm sure many of you disagree with me on that, but that's the beauty of free speech and the ability to think for one's self. Enjoy it while you can, because feminists everywhere are trying to make this kind of discussion a hate crime.

As for Mr. Usher, he's written some fine work, and I'm all for the idea that any ally of the men's movement has the potential to be helpful, but Mr. Usher (like Wendy McElroy) always appears to be pushing a particular domestic political agenda. As I've mentioned above, I don't consider that helpful, even if these folks do occasionally espouse some of the same notions we talk about around here. It occurs to me that as much as anything else, they're using the men's movement to further their political agenda, not the other way around. I have no interest in anyone's domestic political intentions, especially since our struggle is international in scope.

It's an unfortunate fact that mixing party politics with our struggle achieves nothing other than typecasting all members of the men's movement as pro-marriage neoconservatives, and I'm neither. I fully support the ideas of universal equal opportunity and universal equality under the law, and I'm opposed to marriage for many reasons (straight or gay). Also, the modern version of the idea that the enemy of my enemy is automatically my friend is a largely neoconservative/authoritarian notion, and I don't share it. Hence the reason that I don't pay much attention to Mediamatters.org or FOX News, even when the latter occasionally presents an anti-feminist point of view for ridicule (e.g. the occasions when a couple of surgically-altered harpies bash Marc Rudov on-air for daring to question their absolute supremacy). Mr. Usher has some interesting ideas and access to the media, but I don't care for his sometimes heavily-politicized approach.

Keep the politics out of it, and we'll get farther, faster, gentlemen. Politicizing the men's movement just gives feminists yet another club to beat us with. So, vote as you please, fight to defend your right to do so if necessary, but keep your politics separate from your efforts in the men's movement. Do you only support rights for men who support a certain political party in one particular country? No? Then why would you tangle your efforts in the men's movement with your political interests? Feel free to disagree with me, but I see the men's movement as a human movement, not a political one, and the reason for that is NOT purely philosophical. The fact is that politicians will always favor feminists. Full stop. Period. Feminism is purely political. Unlike feminists and their captive politicians, all of whom happily neglect the needs of half of humanity, I don't care if a man or a woman is my sworn political opponent or my "enemy" in another sense. That person is still a human being, and deserves equal rights and respect (at least until they forfeit them through criminal actions).

Furthermore, the two main political parties in the US and most of the parties elsewhere in the world firmly support the feminist party line and oppose the men's movement as a matter of policy, so involving politics in the men's movement is entirely counterproductive. The minute we go political, we lose.

Roy: as for MND, I had enough reason to avoid their extremist political views even before I found out that they engaged in censorship when unpopular views were expressed. Thank you for enlightening me about the people operating that site; like you, I'll leave censorship to the feminists.

First off, I am a girl. Pleasr do not call me a woman because that word has a filthy feminist ring to it in my ears. This is the first time I was ever on this site and I think it is about high-time this stuff was heavily publicized. I found a link to this site by chance on the Newsweek website. I was reading the article about the 8-9 year old "rapists". Guys, I am totally on your side and I always have been. I am 34 years old. My parents were divorced when I was 11. We were raised by my Dad, whom I might add did a fantasitc job, thanks Dad, after the divorce, the cause of which was a PHYSICALLY ABUSIVE MOTHER. She abused my Dad so bad in front of us children and my Dad never laid a finger on this witch. He worked his balls off, took care of us kids, gave us and her everything she wanted, and came home at the end of the day to a physically abusive witch that cheated on him and drank more than a fraternity party. When I was in high school, I went out on a double date with a girlfriend and 2 boys from another school. The boy that my friend was with didn't return calls from her so she reported that he raped her. This boy was arrested, and I got a subpoena to testify AGAINST this boy in court. My friend just assumed that I would lie for her. No way. I told them in court that she was lying, that I was there and that no rape occured. Next, I have a couple that live upstairs of my boyfriend and I. They fight constantly and I can hear everything through the ceiling. The woman is the agressor everytime and is physically abusing to this poor man. The police get called to thier apartment on a regular basis and without fail, every time, SHE tells the cops that it was HE who was being abusive. They believe her and the poor guy is escorted away and told that if he returns within the next 24 hours he will be arrested. My point is that I am a girl and I am so tired of women playing victim, thinking it is cute, lying about sexual assaults to get back at a guy for not calling them, being abusive then claiming to be the abused. I have had a lot of female friends in my lifetime and I have seen the dark side of women. My boyfriend is from Bulgaria and when he came here 8 months ago, he got a job working as a security guard at a women's dorm on a large college campus here in town. All I could do is warn him about women and tell him to be very careful. Not to cross any of them or he could get charged with rape and it will ruin his life. He could not believe what goes on in this country with these feminists ruining men's lives, all of the innocent male victims, and how our legal system is so anti-male that it doesn't even matter if you are innocent, they will find a way to ruin your life anyway. Anyhoo, I am rambling. I just wanted to say that there is a girl championing for you guys. A female anti-feminist that is on your side. This site is great and I will show my boyfriend when he gets home from work. Keep your heads up guys and fight the good fight!

SK (CA?) --

I could wholeheartedly "tolerate" Mr. Usher if he would just fill-in-the-blanks in my MRA education, by providing a clear and logical explanation for how his pro-marriage doctrine benefits MEN.

I could even tolerate Kim Gandy if she would provide a logical argument for how her brand of feminism is about real gender equality.

You know how our chivalrous society proposes that "men must respect women" just because they are female?

It's foolishness, right?

That's how I feel about tolerance and respect.

Gotta earn it through words and deeds.

There is really nothing personal going on here or on any men's rights site.

We are all just abstract personalities representing ourselves through our words-on-screens.

At present it is an interesting experiment in forming political communities.

I'm fairly sure David R. Usher and I would have a civil conversation and negotiate our differences if we met in a pub over a decent pint of ale.

But I'm not willing to marry again to test out the validity of David's prescription for men's futures.
