Military's Progress on Women in Combat Criticized

'A year after the Pentagon opened combat jobs to female servicemembers, plans for integrating women into these jobs remain problematic, women’s advocates said this week.

The Marine Corps and the Army, which have the largest number of military occupational specialties still closed to women, have, according to critics, unclear and inconsistent approaches to integrating women fully into the forces by January 2016, the deadline set by former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta.

The Marines have made little progress in integrating women into jobs they already qualify for, and the purpose of a proposed physical screening test is questionable since it focuses on strength-based measures and not skills actually needed for the work, according to Greg Jacob, a former Marine and policy director of the Service Women’s Action Network.

The critics, which included veterans and members from the ACLU, National Women’s Law Center and Women’s Research & Education Institute, have called for more transparency into the research and progress the military has made.

The Army has yet to open 100,000 positions in 14 specialties and the Marines still have to open 70,000 positions in 32 specialties, said Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., who has spearheaded efforts highlighting issues females face in the military.

“We need to be able to hold them accountable for preventing the best-qualified individuals from competing for these positions,” Gillibrand said. “Integrating women into combat strengthens our country both morally and militarily.”'

I am so sick of her. I am almost as sick of her as I am of her good buddy, The Hildebeast. But at least I feel sort of sorry for The Hildebeast. She has made her bed in life. But really, I never thought anyone less qualified than Dan Quayle could have possibly gotten into a position to influence significant US policies, but as they say, "the theory of relativity" always applies. Read up on her here. Qualifications for office, especially for blathering about the armed forces: zilch. But I guess what qualifications one has for office depends on your POV. Come from a family of professional political operatives? Check. Went to law school and defended Phillip-Morris and other big tobacco cos. against lawsuits? Check. Joined damn near every women's society, political interest group, and campaign for hardly any reason than that the candidates were women? Almost. They had to be Democrats. Switched voting plans on a dime to win votes, contradicting oneself from year to year depending on which Congressional body you're in? Check. Collect loads of campaign contributions from the likes of Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan? Check. But that's pretty typical of the breed.

But don't get me wrong, I support the idea of getting women into the same MOSes as men. What I don't support is the idea that someone like her actually has the self-generated delusion of thinking she is qualified to render an opinion of what is and is not proper training for combat. After all, if I have never been in a boxing ring myself or anything close to it, do I have any basis for going around telling boxers how they ought to be fighting?
