Kagan admits her gender was likely the greatest factor for her appointmentStory here. "Difficulties", indeed. Plenty of male lawyers and judges would love to have your "difficulties", Mme. Justice. Excerpt: 'If Elena Kagan was not a woman, she may not be sitting on the country's highest judicial bench, the Supreme Court justice told an audience at the University of Tennessee on Friday. The candid statement came early in an hourlong conversation-style presentation Kagan held Friday in the Cox Auditorium in the Alumni Memorial Building, where she also discussed the strategy of deciding the country's top cases and her affinity for hunting with fellow Justice Antonin Scalia.

Occasionally they let one slip
Every now and then, a high-level politician, appointed or elected, lets the truth slip even when it doesn't serve them. Admittedly, she faces no election challenge to her office, so she can be a bit more candid than those needing to come up with fresh "explanations" every X number of years for why their promises remain unfulfilled. Still, she has to face her buddies in various circles and this particular truth-letting is an embarassment. After all, she just admitted that she's a benefactor of some very high-placed sexist largesse. And so to right this wrong and let someone who may indeed be better-qualified to be on the SC but *gasp* not female get a chance at it, will she step down? As they say, don't hold your breath. But to be fair, if you were one day by great luck a lottery winner from a ticket you found, and thus you didn't really think it was truly "your ticket", would you neglect to claim the $10 million it represents? Didn't think so.
