Quotas Limiting Male Science Enrollment: The New Liberal War on ScienceArticle here. Excerpt: 'Gender disparities in a major are not the product of sexism, but rather the differing preferences of men and women. The fact that engineering departments are filled mostly with men does not mean they discriminate against women anymore than the fact that English departments are filled mostly with women proves that English departments discriminate against men. The arts and humanities have well over 60 percent female students, yet no one seems to view that gender disparity as a sign of sexism against men. Deep down, the Obama administration knows this, since it is planning to impose its gender-proportionality rules only on the STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and math), not other fields that have similarly large gender disparities in the opposite direction.'

Cut off their noses
Obama is asking for a court case about proportional representation... take it all the way to the Supreme Court. If ever there was a reason to NOT vote for Obama, this is it -- he is the most pro-feminist President America has ever had.
If any university is stupid enough to do this, without being forced to do so by the government, they deserve the results that they will get. They will then "cut off their nose to spite their face." In other words, as the economy declines, and student enrollments also decline, this university will cut off its own potential sources of revenue, thus hastening the day when they are forced to close their doors. I don't see any but the most rabid feminist institutions even considering this.
Oh Hell Nobama!
I concur. In fact, this is the final straw. This pisses me off so much, I'd love to see him lose the next election for this.
How is it even sensible to enforce that women either make up half or the majority of every single field? It's amazing how in denial liberals are about gender differences. It'd be nice if they could celebrate differences instead of forcing everyone to be the same. War on women... yeah right... not when you have the government tilting the playing field to women's advantage in every regard.
Thankfully, I don't see this working out in the long term. It's ridiculous to believe that any university could get half of the STEM fields to be female. It's impossible due to lack of interest.
not true unfortunately
look at the mens sports affected by this previously they cut the teams anyways,,
look at it this way by comparison todays academics pale in comparison to those from 50 years ago
they had to dumb down the entrance exam in the stem fields so that more (women) could get in
in canada they lowered the fitness levels to enter the military so that women could enter and called it equality
it comes down to lowest common denominator if the levels are lowered to a point where they can support 60% women and thats all they produce then companies wont have any choice to hire them because thats all that are available and everyone will be trained in the same way (see lower standards..) so it wont take long before this becomes the norm......
A boy can dream.
Yeah.. but generally speaking, women aren't interested in math. It would take nothing short of physical force to get the STEM fields 50 or 60% female. The only other option is to cut the classes so that they're ridiculously small. Then the universities will wonder what the point of having them is, if they only end up producing a fraction of the professionals they used to. This will take the profitability out of it for the universities. Getting rid of the STEM programs altogether will be option 3, which can't be done due to society's reliance on them. And if they change the curriculum, the quality of the degrees produced will drop drastically, causing the US to lag behind in technology. In the end, I think this is going to make Obama look even more ridiculous than he already does.
