College Principal Valson Thampu introduced the proposal before the college staff at a meeting held this morning. The idea that has earlier been discussed by the Supreme Council of the college proposed a reservation of 40 per cent of the college seats for male students.

Set-asides are fine...
... if they favor women. Otherwise, no. Or hadn't you heard?
I don't support set-asides in any way shape or form. I do however support equality of opportunity-- and if women are going to enjoy set-asides based on perceived inequality based on tabulating things like admissions numbers, well, until this is banished for both sexes (and other categories), then I'll support set-asides for men when the idea comes up. Fair is, as they say, fair. Well, sometimes. Unless the whole thing is categorically unfair in the first place. Then, it's the lesser of evils.
Such is where we're at.
