Upcoming campaign: Turning the Tide, May 1-16

Real hope and change – that’s the thought that passed through my head when I heard the San Diego Domestic Violence Council has just awarded a grant to the National Coalition for Men, a men’s rights organization.

Of course, we have a long way to go, but for the first time, the wind is filling our sails.

So we’re now pleased to announce an upcoming 2-week campaign, “Turning the Tide.” We picked that title because after 5 years of hard work, we’re beginning to see the fruits of our labors!

“Turning the Tide” is designed to capture the attention of the American public and lawmakers that the current DV system is broken and needs to be FIXED! (The campaign also aims to set the stage for the upcoming November elections.) The campaign is set to begin Saturday, May 1, and last through Sunday, May 16. Coordinated by SAVE (Stop Abusive and Violent Environments), the campaign will feature:

  • Local publicity activities designed to raise public awareness
  • 15 radio interviews around the country to expose the pervasive sex-bias in the DV industry
  • Advocacy to state and national lawmakers about the necessity to change our DV laws and policies
  • Release of a new “no-holds-barred” Special Report on predominant aggressor policies
  • Spring Cleaning lobbying event in Washington, DC, May 6-7 (we’ll be sharing registration information soon!)

Updates on the “Turning the Tide” campaign will be published at Abusegate -- http://abusegate.mensnewsdaily.com/ -- so stay tuned. We’d like to get everyone involved, so start planning now how you and your organization can catch the wave of change! This is going to be fun!!
