'SNL' Criticized After Airing Tiger Woods Domestic Violence Skit While Rihanna On Show

Article here. A breath of fresh air-- someone actually mentions the double-standard! Excerpt:

'"Saturday Night Live" is making headlines for featuring a skit over the weekend, which parodied domestic violence.

On Saturday night's episode, the NBC sketch comedy show made light of Tiger Woods' scandalous week, satirizing reports - denied by the golfer - that his wife, Elin Nordegren, attacked him prior to his early-morning car accident on November 27 with a sketch featuring Keenan Thomson and host Blake Lively.

"It was another sketch that gave us pause," noted PopEater in an article titled "'SNL' Lampoons Alleged Violence in Tiger Woods' Marriage," on Sunday. "We think, had the genders been reversed, 'SNL' wouldn't make light of the potentially violent situation."

Female-oriented site Jezebel called the sketch one of the show's "obvious missteps... when you consider that Rihanna was the night's musical guest."

Rihanna might see,'" adding, "Had the tables been turned and a man was suspected of beating up his wife, there definitely wouldn't be a lighthearted sketch like this. But since it's female-on-male domestic violence, our current culture deems it kind of, sort of okay to make fun of and the scandal had to be addressed before it lost heat."

I'm not sure what's so great about this. What they're talking about is the skit's possible effect on this Rhianna lady, even within the context of bringing up the double standard.

What's more important is that there's a discussion going on that acknowledge DV against men is the same type of violence as DV against women.

We are so used to having our issues ignored or disparaged that we cheer for every crumb that falls our way. If Rihanna weren't on the show, the double standard, etc., would never have been brought up.

Good and Bad

For sure, it's absolutely great that someone is thinking in terms of what would the situation be if the genders were reversed.

But this article disappointed me in showing that people were worried about the affect of the skit on Rhianna. The media has NEVER said anything about Rhianna's violence toward Chris Brown, and the idea that they're worried about the skit's affect on her reinforces the notion that she is still considered the victim.

Yes, she's the victim of Chris Brown's violence. But, she's ALSO an abuser herself. It would have been nice if this article did something to highlight that BOTH Elin and Rhianna started BOTH incidents with THEIR violence.

What About Chris Brown?

I admit I haven't really kept up with the ongoing saga about Chris Brown (don't really know who he is) and someone called Rihanna (don't know who she is either) and an incident between them that got the Brown player arrested and prosecuted for DV. I leave such matters as monitoring this story to Ophus Windbag.

However, I did hear that HE was physically and verbally assaulted by HER first. So why wasn't she arrested and prosecuted for DV?

Of course if this Chris Brown character were any sort of a "real man" he would have gotten his lawyers to file charges against her if the feminist DA wouldn't. This goes for that wimpy Tiger Woods too.

Guys you got to stop saying "I just want to put this incident behind me and go on with my life."

Oh sure, because woman-on-man violence is laughable but man-on-woman violence is a serious issue. Let's talk about that rather than crying over what Rhianna might have thought about it.

Did anyone hear her "sing"? My God, it was horrible. I don't really know a good singer when I hear one, really, but she was terrible. If she had been on American Idol she would've been kicked off at the first stage and scorned by Simon Cowell. Honestly, it was that bad.
