Mom gets 40 yrs after shooting husband

'RIVERSIDE, Calif. (CNS) -- A mother of four who fatally shot her husband in what she has repeatedly described as an accident was sentenced Friday to 40 years to life in prison.

Sonja Regina Hadnot, 39, was convicted in June of second-degree murder and a sentence-enhancing allegation of using a firearm in a crime resulting in great bodily injury or death for the June 28, 2000, death of her husband, David.

Judge J. Richard Couzens sentenced her to 15 years to life for the murder charge and 25 years to life for the gun allegation, according to Hadnot's attorney, Danny Davis.'

Accident? That doesn't bypass the logic filters of the court systems! As a woman, she could have played the abuse-excuse card (Winkler defense) and walked free the next day. Best use emotional abuse and other unprovable claims to ensure a quick court hearing.

Men's rights aside....doesn't it seem ridiculous to anyone that the sentence for using a firearm in a crime resulting in body injury or death is MORE than the crime for actually murdering someone?

How does that make sense? If i shoot someone in the foot, how is that worse than slitting someone's throat with a knife?

Im sure it's partially due to wanting to deter people from owning guns, there is usually a money trail/agenda/political party behind the seeminly silly inconsistancies like that. Maybe for Stat manipulation or such.
