Stride Gum Jumps on Misandric Advertising Bandwagon

Well, fellow MRAs, it's time to start boycotting Cadbury Adams, the maker of Trident and Stride gum. As if those terrible Trident Splash commercials weren't enough, now Stride has a commercial featuring not one, but two groin shots. In the ad, a man is crossing the street, talking on his cellphone, when out of nowhere a ram comes along and hits him in the crotch. He then falls and tries to get up, when it hits him again, forcing him to spit out his gum. Two guys then come along, grab the piece of gum and jump into a van.

This ad is beyond immature, and is reminiscent of the trident ad "the fifth dentist". I'm convinced that the advertising department at cadbury adams must really hate men. I decided to write them the following letter:

Hi. I was just writing because I have a great idea for an ad for your product, Stride gum. A woman is just walking down the street, minding her own business, when out of nowhere a ram head butts her in the crotch, causing her to fall to the ground in agonizing pain. Then when she tries to get up, it hits her again, causing her to spit out her Stride gum.

Obviously, this ad would be in bad taste, so why is it okay to do the same type of thing with a man as the victim of the brutal sexual assault? As you can see, I'm referring to your latest ad "Office Park". Of course, Trident, another brand of Cadbury Adams has also had an ad like this in the past called "the fifth dentist". I don't find groin strikes to be funny, whether they're happening to a man or a woman. It's just offensive. Obviously, I don't intend to buy your products. I just thought I would give you the heads up as to why that is.

Sincerely,
Evan Springler

Please write Cadbury Adams, and let them know what you think. To watch the ad, go to Stridegum.com, click on advertising, then click on the link entitled "Office Park". Then please, click the "Contact Us" link and let them know your thoughts.

Thanks a lot, brothers!

As does their cheesy, male bashing ads.

I went grocery shopping tonight and passed up buying Stride gum even though it was the "cheapest" brand on the rack! Each pack was half the price of other similar brands.

They must be so hard up for sales they are practically giving it away.

Don't let misandry pay.

Truth is, I've tried both Stride and 5 gum, and 5 actually lasts longer, tastes better, and it comes in a cooler pack. It's made by Wrigley's, so you're not supporting Cadbury Adams if you buy it. I must say I also find the advertising for 5 to be much more creative and clever than Stride's, where basically every commercial is a guy getting assaulted so he'll spit his first piece of gum out. The ads for 5, on the other hand, are about "what it feels like to chew 5 gum" and always features some cool scenario, which really can't be explained in words. It's the type of thing where you have to see it to understand. Anyway, my point is that 5 kicks the crap out of Stride. If you want a long lasting gum, but don't want to support companies with misandric advertising, buy 5.

First off this ad has been out, at least in my neck of the woods, for months. It seems to have gone out of rotation around here (oregon) since I haven't seen it for a while.

Secondly, I think the ram is kind of intended to hit him in the gut or the solar plexus, kind of a Heimlich maneuver to get him to spit out his gum. I don't think it's particularly groin focused.

That said, it's true, there are no women getting the gum knocked out of them.

Hey fibtastic. I don't think we've ever conversed before. Nice to meet u.

U left some interesting comments. I never thought of the assault to be an attack on the gut. That would make the commercial a little less offensive, yet still ultimately unacceptable. However, I don't think that's the case. In the reply I received from Cadbury Adams, they never denied that it was, as I referred to it, a "brutal sexual assault".

Their reply:

Dear Mr. Springler: Thank you for contacting us about our Stride Canada advertisement. We are always interested in hearing from our consumers. We regret that you were unhappy with the advertisement. Extensive consumer research is conducted prior to our commercials being aired on television. Please be assured that we are sensitive to the views of all consumers. We will forward your concerns to our marketing department and advertising agencies for their review when developing future ad campaigns. Thank you again for sharing your views with us. We hope you continue to purchase and enjoy Stride Canada products.

Sincerely,

Whoever is in charge of this site atm, is very slacking as for as the news stories. Linking a story days after it is out undermines a large majority of the purpose behind the act, please take the responsibility seriously if someone is in charge atm. Me and alot of other individuals would greatly appreciate it.

I understand where you're coming from, but please understand that the people who manage and contribute to the site sometimes don't come across relevant stories when they first come out. It may take a few days for it to be brought to our attention.

Sometimes stories/articles are relevant even weeks after first reported by the MSM. Another great thing is the site is constantly updated, sometimes on a daily basis. If a post doesn't grab your attention, simply move on to the next one. MANN also allows each member to submit their own articles. I'm sure Matt would certainly appreciate any positive input via e-mail. I hope you stick around Michael, I consider MANN one of the best MRA sites.

Blar, I reread my post and it did come across overly negative, my bad I was wrong to be so harsh. It's just that its four days between stories since the gum one and there have been several stories that are relevant since them. A few I have submitted, two stories about male suicide and few others.

I think Matt was on vacation. Please Keep on submitting suicide information, its an important, often ignored MRA topic. Enjoy!

I feel there is a problem with the issue of "timely" and having to post articles rapidly before they become "old news," presumably in about 24 hours in today's media info-glut cycle.

This is my personal bias as an individual that reads a lot of history and philosophy; however, if men want to truly understand the mess we are in today regarding feminism, then events that happened way back in the 1920's are still relevant.

Sometimes you have to follow the trail like a bloodhound back to root causes, and they were never just last week's news.

I believe that the things you are doing now are very good and after finishing doing that you should promote the promotional mugs. I am sure that this would have a real success.

Ah, can't seem to find the ad! I think I can picture what you mean though. We have a few adverts here in the UK that are similar. I think it's inappropriate for advertising companies to use such ads to sell products. Sometimes some of the adverts are quite bizarre in terms of the product they are intending to sell being in no way related to the topic of the advert.
