In a surprising discovery, researchers say they have found a virus in some prostate cancer patients, a finding that opens new research avenues in the most common major cancer among men in the United States.

Maybe it wouldn't be so surprising if our societies spent as much money on prostate cancer, which affects more people than breast cancer does - 1 in 6 men vs. 1 in 9 women, approximately, if the urologists are to be believed. Just how many thousand or million men dying early will it take before someone bothers to notice? While I'm sure it makes feminists dance with glee, it's just more evidence of society's relative valuation of human life: as with the application of criminal sanctions, the biggest predictor of life expectancy is, of course, gender. Way to go, grrrlz.

On CNN this AM they stated that the current paradigm about prostrate cancer (watchful waiting) is actually killing the patients. Men that get treatement live longer. Watchful waiting must really mean lets us just watch you die!
