An older version of present domestic violence scares
posted by Matt on 01:21 PM January 12th, 2006
Domestic Violence ahhkaboom writes "An older version of present domestic violence accusations is: White Slavery.

Wikipedia defines this as a moral panic in late 19th century and early 20th century United States, where there was a perception that abduction of (white) girls into forced prostitution was a danger to every young woman.

In this moral panic, the selected scapegoats were Chinese immigrants (known as Yellow peril), who were stereotyped and demonized as white slavers (eg: Thoroughly Modern Millie)."

Ed. note: Note the off-site link at the bottom of the entry leading to here, discussing the current scare regarding "trafficking in women" by one Jo Doezema.

I find it interesting that in Nevada where there is legal prostitution they seem to have very little problems. I have watched shows where the Women are interviewed, and they love it. They make good money, and most of them enjoy their work. Perhaps if prostitution was legalized that there would be less Men that would have sex used as a tool of control. Then, there is always the fact that by legalizing that which People want they will do away with the cash flow that the controlling factors depend on to finance their "machines". Oh well, it seems that the simplest solutions to any problem although maybe the best, are the most difficult to implement, why is that?

However, it wasn't of the form so many people freaked out about. For a while, Barbary pirates would raid European cities and take slaves. By the mid-19th Century, I belive the European powers had effectively stopped the pirates.

As a Chinese myself I am very angry when some one actually push all the problem on us.

I heard about the feminist saying human slavery of woman nowdays in China, which is true. But I think human trafficking of WHITE female in THe NINETEEN century is surely bullshit. As everyone know China was really weak at that time , every single Chinese people was afraid of the power of Western country. No way they will do something like that.

It has been gnawing at me since I first read this, so here goes. In almost every major city in this country we have the modern version of slavery. Indentured servatude, smuggled People comming here seeking a better life, and ending up working for little or nothing until they pay for their "passage". Italian, Chinese, Vietnamese, Etc. Whole Families, singles, and even single Women being made to work in houses of prostitution. All being done with the blessings of our government. Why? Because they funnel cash into the hands of politicians, they help funnel the disafected from their countries to the U.S., and because they send "hungry" People to this country that can be taken advantage of, profits for everyone! I have seen this first hand, most of us have heard about it, but it still continues. I ask this question again, just where the hell is the land of the free? EQUALITY for everyone! In this country EQUALITY is a commodity that only the wealthy or well connected can afford!
