Double Standard in Sex Offender Sentencing
posted by Thomas on 01:32 AM November 30th, 2005
News This is a somewhat confused article, but it also contains a few good points. It's good to see USA Today quote Richard Gartner, the psychologist in New York who authored Betrayed as Boys, "(regarding jail time) we definitely still have a double standard," with women receiving lesser jail terms than men.

....yes, the article was a move in the right direction, but.....I was still aware of that subtle undertow, that insidious subtext tending toward the exculpation of women.

Particularly telling, to my keen eye, was the allegation that heightened awareness of female transgression is due to the growing presence of women in the law enforcement professions.

Still painting a halo around women, it would seem -- taking back with the left hand what they gave out with the right...

That doesn't bother me. An increased number of women in police forces has also led to more cases of female-on-male domestic abuse being treated as crimes, too. Apparently, some of the women see through the "poor girl" nonsense better than some of the men.

So that, if the feminists try to spin this in a manner that will score points for feminism.....then they will end by shooting themselves in the foot.

Hmmmm...you just might be onto something there!

Thanks for sharing... :-)
