UK Campaign Demonizes Men to Reduce Female Alcohol Consumption
posted by Matt on 10:13 AM May 16th, 2005
The Media It is not good news that British female alcohol consuption is skyrocketing, outpacing any other group in Britain. What is also bad is that in an effort to reduce it, the UK gov't is using scare tactics with men as the target pariah group to try to discourage it. Not to put too fine a point on it, but it is reminiscent of the anti-Semitic posters used by the Third Reich to get the Germans to fear and hate Jews, isn't it?

This doesn't surprise me at all. I live in Australia now, but I'm a brit and spent the last seven years there with my wife and kids.

During that time we both had plenty of occassions to go out, together and separately. In my experience, the vast majority of blokes drink enough to get pleasantly drunk - say 6 to 8 pints - then stagger home, and fall asleep in front of the telly. Invariably they are home by 11.30, as the pubs close there at 11.00.

On the other hand the women start drinking wine before they go out, then hit the shots in the pub. They were (in my experience at least) louder and more obnoxious than the blokes, and far more drunk. They would go on to the clubs and often back to one of their houses for the night caps, and ended up so drunk they could hardly stand. If my wife and her friends got home before 3 in the morning it was an early one - and that was very common, from what I knew of others.

However, it was always blokes being turned away from pub doors. Blokes who get turned down by cabbies and made to walk home, blokes who get stopped by the coppers.

Far from being attacked by seedy men, a goodly proportion of the women I came into contact with were predators on their nights out. They would farm the pub, weeding out horny guys with a few quid and getting them to buy their drinks all night by flirting with them. Often you'd see them kissing and groping with them - until all of a sudden they'd had their drinks and it was time to move on to the next pub, and the guy gets dropped like a hot potatoe.

So no, it doesn't surprise me. Women can do what they like on their nights out in the UK - guys are ALWAYS to blame, we should know that by now (sarcasm there!)

all this time women ain't been offended by men's naughty actions...they were just wishin it was them. now it IS them.

if i was to get real drunk and wake up with a coyote ugly ... {memories race thru my mind sending chills down my back...} did she (they?) assualt me? i couldn't fight her off so she took advantage of me! she shoulda been arrested! i feel soooo violated...

I don't really see much of a problem for drunk women. When they wake up with a hangover they can always cry rape.

On my infrequent trips back to the UK I've been astonished at the rowdy bands of drunken 'yobesses' staggering through city streets at night.

Maybe soon we'll have Kristallnacht and a few of these painted animals will start burning down the odd Working Men's Club.
