Eligible? How much money have you got?
posted by Matt on 09:15 AM March 19th, 2005
News AngryMan writes "When the UK recently passed the Freedom of Information Act, Angela Wright decided to use it to find a husband. She has a thing about police officers, and she emailed her local police headquarters asking for details of "eligible bachelors within Hampshire constabulary between the ages of 35 and 49 and details of their email addresses, salary details and pension values".

Got to make sure you get your hands on the money, Angela.

Want to know why most high-earners are men? Because men work harder. Why? Because they know that their value in the marriage marketplace depends on how much they earn.

Don't believe me? Ask Angela."

The concept of privacy rights, especially for men, does not seem to occur to her. If a man had asked for this information, say about nurses, it would have practically been considered stalking. Freedom of information isn’t about freedom of government information, but freedom to get information about someone she can get her claws into.

If she wants to meet policeman why not put an advert in the police gazette? On the other hand the request for pension information seems suspicious. Planning for a possible divorce?

The Guardian writes this up like it's a joke. It's a terrible oppression that men face. But change can start personally. I don't value myself in terms of money, and I don't let women who have anything to do with me value me in that way.
