Australian Insurance Company Takes Page from Progressive Playbook
posted by Matt on 02:06 PM March 13th, 2005
News Looks like Progressive is not the only insurance company using male bashing these days to "reach out" to potential female customers. Mutual Community South Australia looks like it has been getting ideas from Progressive Insurance with its latest offering. Visit the Mutual Community link above and scroll down to the lower right corner of the page and view the "It's Dangerous Being Single" ad. Gee, what a riot!

I wish I remembered the theme, but I DID see a Progressive commercial the other day that took it's humor at the expense of a woman.

I checked it out, and on its own merit it hard to determine what it is that is being sold... mostly the idea that women should train to attack men if the wrong guy hits on her.

The ad implies that the guy in the bar is going to get what the punching bag got- a punch-elbow and knee to groin as taught to the group of woman... although they never show it.

The woman looks at the guy like "i will destroy you" -clearly a feminist fantasy ad...

lets not give this too much attention, it will inspire the misandrists to insert their little hate messages upon the unwitting more often

It appears this company is trying to deal with the singleness that plagues Australia saying, "It's dangeroug to be single."

...but who the heck would want to be with a feminasty trained gonad kicker. This advertisement might be sending one message to women, but guys should beware that it is even more dangerous to not be single. With advertising like this, Aussie homo sapiens may soon be on the endangered species list.

It is very, very dangerous to be involved with an Aussie gonand cruncher. ...or a Yankee gonad cruncher, or a Brit gonad cruncher, or a Canook gonad cruncher, etc.

well, the reality is that if the man is looking to pick up the woman, he is not in a fighting mode - yet she is...

I am sure that normal men do not think about beating up woman if she rejects him...or if she hits on him

feminists are making women weird... do woman sit around all day thinking about beating up men (if they could) - if not, why the violence in the ads?

double standards are not cool

Sorry, guys, I know this isn't really the time or place, but my Mother is in the hospital, right now with a VERY sirious case of pneumonia.
If you could, could you all pray for her. She really needs that, right now. Her name is Sonia.
God will know who you mean, I'm sure.
Because of this, you probably won't see me post here for a while. but I'll get back to the fight when I can.
Thank you, guys.

This commercial seems to point out that it is dangerous to be a single guy. They have implied that he is an inocent guy about to get roughed up by a woman. "It's dangerous to be a single" (guy?).

I think they are trying to sell insurance to men by making a satyrical joke about modern misandry.

It looks like they hit the nail on the head.

Hmm, that is one possible alternative interpretation. I would agree except they so clearly make the guy out to be a dolt while the girl is Miss Empowered Kickboxing Beauty Princess. Again that could be part of the joke. Well I am inclined to err on the side of the trend, which is to make men out to look like idiots/punching bags for women [wimym, wymyn, wimmin, whatever :)]
