Watershed NH study on Child Support
posted by Matt on 02:17 PM January 16th, 2005
Inequality Marc writes "This report honestly looks to be a major milestone. It is highly critical of current NH child support guidelines and how they unfairly treat the non-custodial parent. Included are specific recommendations on possible resolutions as well. It looks like New Hampshire has now become the first state to conduct a comprehensive legislative review of child support issues and how the non-custodial parent's rights are abused. Please do whatever you can to spread the word about this and help facilitate the grassroots effort that will keep the pressure on the New Hampshire legislature as the necessary and long overdue legislation to resolve this massive problem is being evaluated."

"My understanding is that the next step is an attempt to get an appropriation passed by the New Hampshire legislature to provide for expert economists to objectively determine what the real level of support should be... If New Hampshire can get it done then it should only be a matter of time until other states follow suit.

I have more information on the associated (and as yet unpassed) bills relative to an appropriation for hiring an economist to develop new guidelines and extending the task force which would be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the committee's report recommendations..."

Is there a new person named Marc who is posting here? So far I'm the only "Marc" that has been, or at least that I've seen. I'm glad to see another. It means we're growing. But, so that nobody confuses us, I'll post as "Marc A." from now on.

I applaud any effort to do something about reforming the corrupt child support racket. However the statement about the *state* setting the economic level a child should be supported at rather than the parents deciding that indicates to me that things will not change for the better. This is because the state is saying it is far superior in determining how much money a child needs to be supported rather than what the parents together deciding on what that level should be base on their combined incomes and expenses.
