Domestic Violence at a Wedding

Domestic Violence Anonymous User writes "Here's an interesting article. Why was the wife not charged with battery for having hit him over the head with an ash tray? If the injuries to his head could have caused him to react in a violent and confused manner towards others subsequently, could she not be held responsible for the entire episode?"

Why was the wife not charged with battery for having hit him over the head with an ash tray?

Well, I don't like stating the obvious but in Western culture female on male violence is considered "cute", "funny", "well deserved", "justified self-defense" or a combination of all the above. Also, this happened in misandry loving in England, the same country that has a male MP who recently publically stated that women are innately more clever than men.

You overlooked something important. He attacked the police, and that was probably what got him the harsh verdict or at least it will have contributed greatly to it.
Yes, there probably was an anti-male bias involved, but it might not be as clear as many here might think. If you attack the police, it usually has consequences.

NJ, he most certainly did attack the police, but I think the original poster's point is that his wife's tray smack was what sent him over the line from being a drunken fool into a violent one.

I guarantee you that had the sexes been reversed, a man hitting his drunken wife in the head with a tray would have featured more prominently in the story.

(Fortunately, there are no comparable stories to check out!)
