"Desperate Housewives" panned by NYTimes
posted by Matt on 10:27 PM September 30th, 2004
The Media I almost thought about adding this under Humor. Anyway, it seems that to the NY Times' Alesandra Stanley, "Desperate Housewives" is a terribly sexist, regressive TV show that never should have made it to TV. (She pans "Boston Legal", too, which apparently has William Shatner himself on it.)

Well, who knows. I must say I was surprised; I rather imagined a different kind of show being reviewed. But you know, why should it be too surprising? The pilot hasn't even aired yet so no one except media, industry insiders and select audiences have even seen it.

Hmm, maybe I *should* have posted this under "Humor" after all...

Desperate Husbands..... (Score:1)

....These men have a shrewd, demanding, parasitic, greedy, unemployed housewives who hang around the house, laying on their lazy cellulite-accumulating asses while a legion of nannies and maids do all of the *REAL* domestic work (ie: raising the children), so they can watch Oprah, The View, Lifetime Channel, Oxygen Channel, and Dr Phil, and learn new ways to make these poor men even more miserable.

And the unfortunate men's children have been indoctrinated by their mothers to view their beast-of-burdern fathers as redundant sperm-donners and ATM machines. Daughters are even worse as they ridicule their fathers for supposedly being immature jackasses in their eyes for not knowing who Brittney Spears is currently married to.

These men lead desperate lives of strenuous survival in the most hostile of all environments.

These men hunger for respect, love, child-to-father affection, and equal treatment within their own homes.

Will they realize their dreams? Find out this fall.

Desperate Husbands; coming soon.

So, do they mean this show is "sexist" towards men, or (more likely) women?
The last folks I would expect to stand up for men is the N.Y. Times.

David Bianculli, a non-feminist reviewer for the NY Daily News, gave the show a 4-star rating. That's the only 4-star rating he's given a non-cable show this year. So who do we believe, a feminist writer for the Times, who probably despises a show about women behaving badly, or an impartial, usually very good reviewer.

I thought it was called; "DESPERATE housewives...,"
Did they change it's title at the last minuet, or something?

You're right, Thundercloud. I made an error of "semantic replacement" when typing this up. I will correct it.
