It's No Joke: TV Dads Get Short Shrift
posted by Adam on 09:49 AM June 18th, 2004
Fatherhood Rand T. writes ""Dads, you see, are the last subculture in America whom it is permissible to bash and malign with impunity. They have no lobby whose sole task it is to protect their honor. You can depict dads as stumbling, bumbling doofs all you want and receive not a single shred of flak for it. " Full article here"

...the bad news is: I don't think we're going to see the "dumb dad" character go away any time soon. (not as long as the feminists have a say about media depictions of men and women.)

But the good news is: we're seeing a hell of alot more articles condeming the depictions of dads in the media and there are alot more men getting sick of it and doing something about it!

Part of the problem is that many in the entertainment media tend to be liberals and feminists (like in news and advertising). Also, the TV network executives know that their audiences are heavily female. But I do believe that we'll see a gradual lessening of the father-bashing that has existed during the past 15-20 years. IMO this has already started because of resentment of the kind expressed on this board.

That doesn't get in on any of the NFL packages. Life seems to become tragic for them

We have a market we just haven't figured out how to penalize groups that make it a habit of maligning us.

Just remember every now and then the pendulum starts swinging back in the other directiion.

All media outlets have a website and a way of e-mailing them. Take the time and effort to tell them off with very strong language and a sprinkling of sailor talk. I have done this and it does work.
