VIP/SAFE-NH acquires access to Legal Assistance for "victim"clients. Lee Newman January 23, 2004 -------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------

Thomas writing: SAFE (Stop Abuse For Everyone) is an organization that provides assistance to victims of domestic abuse even if they are male. While this announcement may be of particular interest to readers who live in New Hampshire, this is an important step toward the goal of providing help to all victims of domestic violence.

Please go to "Read More/Post Comments" to see the rest of the announcement.

On January 21,2004 Lee Newman,The Founding Executive Director and Deb Roy one of the Founding Co-Director's of Violence Intervention Program/SAFE-NH had a meeting with NH Legal Assistance and was approved to access the same legal services as all of the other Domestic Violence Crisis Centers in the State!

This means that if one of our clients we are assisting needs a lawyer, but can't afford one for DV related hearings or other legal needs that arise from the same ,we will be able to help them through NH Legal Assistance.

We received the income guidlines today and 'intake 'forms and are now able to help 'financially challenged' clients so that they don't have to go to Court without a lawyer or have to go into debt to acquire one.

Prior to this, our clients often would have to borrow legal fees from family and friends in order to have legal representation,or try to represent themselves.

This is a big step toward validation by the 'established' DV resources in NH!

We applaud Attorney Valerie Reed of NH Legal Assistance for her open mind and her professionalism when it comes to helping ALL victims of abuse. We can now do a better job 'Taking a Stand Against Violence and 'Making a Difference ' in NH thanks to NH Legal Assistance!

If you are a victim of Intimate Partner Violence/Domestic Violence in NH and need a lawyer but can't afford one, please contact us.

NEW HAMPSHIRE PRO BONO REFERRAL SYSTEM has income guidlines. You can see the list of guidlines on our website at http://www.VIP-NH.org Please contact us via e-mail ,phone or using the contact us link on our website for more info. or if you need to have intake paperwork done for legal assistance."

My understanding of this post is that the State of New Hampshire is giving financial assistance to an organisation supporting male victims of domestic violence. This is a major development and hopefully other states will follow suit.

I agree. This represents some real progress. Thanks to the concerned folks in New Hampshire and at SAFE who helped make it happen.

These are the kind of results we need, and apparently a female attorney was involved.

This is another great step toward equal rights for men.

Anyone know how the New Hampshire Status of Men Commission is progressing?

First off this is GREAT news. It's only one state, but the tide is turning. Now men who are abused will have the same resources to help them as women. Despite the LIES put out by the DV industry it's gonna be pretty hard to dispute a house FULL of men who are claiming to need a shelter due to DV. As the show for need grows and the legitimate numbers start being published we may be able to stop DV. Not just against men, but a system to actually stop DV by looking at all the victims and not just women.

How is the Commision on the status of men? We got the first meeting as streaming DL and then ..... not a word. We need updates so we can support it.

The NH Commission on the Status of Men is alive and well. VIP/SAFE-NH is doing a presentation regarding Domestic Violence at the Commission meeting this evening. The Commission has decided to "take the meetings on the road" stating this month to enable more people to participate as well as holding them at varied times. Tonight's meeting willl be held at Plymouth State University from 6pm -9pm. We have helped to also facilitate 2 other presentations that will be part of this meeting as well. One is in regards to the gender bias in the education of boys and the other is concerning gender bias in services to boys who have suffered sexual assault.

We will try to post more info. on our website after tonight's meeting regarding the Commission. Soon we hope to see the Commission's website up and running.
Take care,
