Interesting take... comments?

Inequality Matt writes "Hmm, saw this editorial and thought it was an interesting take on things. I don't agree with the presumptions underlying the author's opinions; for example, I see the loss in mnfg. jobs here in the US as being less the result exclusively of current or past Rep'n admin'n policies and more the result of the lack of protection for men vs. discrimination/the all-out blitz vs. men in the workplace on-going since the 70s (the numbers of men 'downsized' or not hired at all or promoted when best-suited for a position because they were men and/or white at this point numbers in the millions of such instances), as well as the rush toward "free trade" -- which is something both major parties have been, no pun intended, a substantial and key party to over the last 30+ years. Still, I am sure such an article will illicit comments and observations from this crowd. :) So, fire away, lads!"

I've heard the comments by Limbaugh, and I don't regard them as an attack on mne in general as I regard them as an attack on impotent journalists in the face of the likes of Hillary Clinton. Hillary never gets asked the tough questions, unlike her male colleagues of the US Senate; she always gets a pass. Why is this? The scary thing is, she'll likely get the same treatment when she becomes the Democratic candidate for the Presidency in 2008.

It doesn't take a very careful read to see that the author's agenda is liberal/Democratic. He is probably a feminist. Note his accusation that American men are trying to castrate women. What he's really saying to men is: "Don't worry about losing your job. It's being given to a woman, so it'll be put to better use than you had for it."

As for me, I get sick of the relentless stream of political dogma coming from places like MND that keep trying to tell me that conservatives are my friends. Speaking as a laid off unemployed professional who has not had an interview in a year, I am very aware of the drain of high tech jobs to places like India and China, and I don't see Bush doing anything about it.

All the other BS is a diversion like the editorial says. Hillary is irrelevant. Except maybe as a conservative scare-crow. (BTW, the editorial didn't say American men are trying to castrate women, it says attention is being diverted to castrating women like Hillary).

Fact is, neither party is doing squat for men like me, and I'm not falling for the BS.

Howard Dean keeps repeating the feminist lies about the wage gap and DV, which I have a big problem with. But at least he seems to understand the depth of the lost job problem. The Bush administration also is allowing the DV crap to continue and isn't doing anything to hold jobs in the US while talking up the "economic recovery." I ain't buying it.

I think the article is dead on.

Check the website. Commondreams. Uh, that's a liberal hangout if ever there was one.

I do agree with this particular article, though - but the solution is not organised labour, collectivism and socialism. It's to out-capitalism the capitalists. Let's put it this way. The biggest threat to the CEO of jobshedder incorporated isn't a picket, it's the union getting wise to how the system works, buying the majority of shares in his company, and then cancelling his health care, golden parachute and options, and booting him out with two seconds' notice (with security in tow to make sure he doesn't take anything with him) while Patinder Ramashankaravantra is brought in for $140,000 yr to run the company.

Excellent thought and suggestion. OH that it would come true. Unfortunately, I don't think it will ever happen. Keep in mind that the holders of the purse strings at the union are elected officials (otherwise known as POLITICIANS, oh my)and thus are more likely to buy the stock, take a kick back from the present CEO, and then increase his Golden Parachute for increseing the short term profits of the company immediately prior to liquidation. They don't worry about getting re-elected because the rank and file (just like the common voter in this country) is a herd animal and just follows the lead animals and buys into their empty promises.

So don't whine about it. Make it happen.

Geez, on another thread someone's accusing me of being a femborg. Maybe he'd do better to check my response out here and run it through his gender checker.

Grow a sack, fight back.

Figure out how the system works, and shoe the guy trying to screw you over in the nuts with it. Because trust me, the people in charge would much rather you be walking around with picket signs. That way, they can throw a few agitators into your crowd, and that gives the cops carte blanche to kick all of you into total submission, and whatever point you were trying to raise gets lost, because broken bottles and blood are more sensational and will be what makes the news.

I don't think he's saying that at all. He's saying that these working men can be helped by calling attention to the erosion of manufacturing jobs and the disastrous effects of trade agreements on the majority of men, who are not wealthy professionals.

Commondreams is not a fan of Hilary Clinton, who is just as corporate and abusive of working men as the Rush Limbaughs who have no idea of what sacrifice and risk really is. They both collect millions for doing practically nothing.
