We have been swamped with phone calls,e-mails and visits to our websites...regarding not only this important Conference during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, but many crisis calls along with requests for information.

The last few weeks have made us even more committed to the visions of both of the Co-sponsors of this event!
The sheer numbers of callers in need of services speaks very clearly to us that we are a necessary addition to services already available! We have been attending an increasing number of hearings as DV Advocates, the Helpline is experiencing an incredible upsurge in calls and registrations for this Conference are coming in a steady flow.
The reason for this e-mail is to remind you to register soon so that you won't be among those who wait to long. Space is limited to the first 400 registrants and our deadline is Oct.4th before the ticket price increases.

More and more everyday we are receiving positive feedback ,not only from individuals who work in the helping professions, educational institutions, medical facilities and State Agencies, but most of all from those who suffer the effects of abuse in their personal lives! We are receiving validation that yes...we ARE "Making a Difference"!

PLEASE...register to attend what some are saying could be "the most important Conference that has come along regarding these issues ...in a long time!"

Join all of the people who have already commited to adding their voices, increasing their awareness and forging important connections at the :

Diverse Perspectives...
Conflict & Violence In Our Families...
                                       Our Communities...
Domestic Violence Conference

Your presence, your voice, your ideas, your perspectives and your compassion are important.  The time has come for all of us to join together in order to assure that every victim of violence and abuse has a place to reach out to and an understanding voice to speak to.

This is a Conference where"politics and personal agendas" are left outside the door so that open and "inclusive" communication can take place.

The time has come for new solutions, new initiatives...and new voices to be heard.
Let's work to blend the old and the new so that we can end the devastation that occurs in our Communities when voices of victims can not be heard!

Please take the time to join the many who are meeting on "common ground" to "Take a Stand Against Violence" on October 18th .

Your attendance will send a clear message that you are ready to forge alliances with those who are ready to make changes and progress!

Presenters from across the country are coming to share their ideas and experience...registrants are coming from everywhere to take ideas home with them and make much needed changes in their communities, while sharing their resources with us.

A regionally well known musical talent and "advocate/activist" will be joining us to share his music so please come early and enjoy your "morning coffee" while listening to him. He will perform for us while we all settle in for our Keynote speaker and the beginning of our day.

The future of services in in all of our hands...important work needs to be done...and will be...!

Come spend a few hours and add your voice and your visions to this important initiative.

Please forward this to others you think may be interested and feel free to share these materials via e-mail or print.

When Former Gov Ann Richards makes "humorous" comments about running men over with a 2 ton piece of iron its not "typical biting wit" (as characterized by the Houston Chronicle), its sick humor that makes light of Domestic Violence perpetrated against men. DV is an issue that I take seriously. Unfortunately there is little effort to show sympathy for or for our legal institutions to take action against these batterers. These days men face several hurdles in even getting police and law enforcement agencies to take Domestic Violence against men seriously. After hearing what Gov. Richards said is there any reason to wonder why? Arnold Swarzenegger is getting blasted for putting a robot woman into a toilet in a movie, but Gov Richards is described to have "typical biting wit" while describing what happened to a real person. Domestic Violence is a major problem for men too. Often when a man reports it, HE is arrested even if shown to have bruises and cuts from his spouse/girlfriend/partner. The exact quote is:

''I know you all are worried about the economy in California but I want to assure you that it's all over the country,'' she said. ''In fact in Texas the price of gas has gone up so high that women who want to run over their husbands are car-pooling.''
The remark drew big laughs from the crowd of mostly women. It was an apparent reference to the case of Clara Harris, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison in February by a Texas judge for running over her unfaithful husband with her car.

Men who are the victims of Domestic Violence are often portrayed as being "deserving" of their abuse, maiming, or death. As a society we largely do not ignore women who are beaten or abused, but we routinely ignore male victims or even blame them for the abuse they suffer. Shelters are not set up for men who are beaten, women use the threat of DV charges to control men in relationships, and false DV charges are used in divorce proceedings. No one asks to be run over and crushed by a car. The victim being male is not funny nor is it excusable.
Also, Sen Clinton is a confirmed batterer. In a biography written by a friend of hers she was confirmed to have thrown an ash tray at her husband and to hit him with it. She once scratched his face during a domestic dispute. If these were "justified" then send an open letter to her asking her if men can do this. We need to confront DV batterer females who profess to hate DV. But here is a US Senator who commited DV against her husband (whether he was an adulterous scumbag is irrelevant, unless it is advocated that men can do the same to women) and we need to make MENTION of it whenever she brings up men/women's issues.
