The article's premise seems to be that you can just presto-chango change you're sexual orientation overnight to suit your situation. I doubt many heterosexual females can accomplish this. Sounds like a homosexual fantasy to me.
If I need to share expense I could get a roomate or join a co-op.
If I want only platonic companionship, I could cultivate regular friends, join clubs ... or get a dog.
If I want a full sexual/intimate relationship I'm afraid I'm going to have to compete for the (according to the article) few older men that will be available and chasing after younger women. (As if..) Personally, I'm not worried. I don't think I'll have to change sexual orientation in order to have sex.
Can you imagine the same article being written advising men to become homosexual?

I couldn't imagine it because men don't live as long as women in general, so the article would be pointless.
As for lesbos changing sexual orientation, they do it all the time. This year I'm going to be a dyke, next year maybe a bi and hey if my relationship with that bull dyke doesn't work maybe I'll become straight for a few years. Celebrities do it, high school and college girls do it, it's trendy! Hey, to each his/her own, as long as my tax money isn't going to it.

... being urged in universities to become lesbians or "explore their sexualities/throw off patriarchal oppression/etc..." as it's called in WST 101 classes?
Well, all I can say is that the idea of two 65+ y/o women in bed together does nothing for me. But if it does something for them, well, then, you go, Golden Grrls!!
ROTFL!! :-)
