sexist tv ads

The Media Anonymous User writes "In the UK the problem of man-bashing tv ads is getting steadily worse. I was particularly angered by the adverts for Wall's "Carte D'ior" ice cream. To summarise one of these ads shows a man and a woman sharing ice cream in the back of a limosine. The woman is dissatisfied with the ice cream the man gives to her (it's not Carte D'ior) so she quickly kicks him out of the (speeding) limo and sends him spinning onto the ground and landing in a load of rubbish bins. As a result I would like to recommend Walls Ice Cream for the "companies to boycott" list on the "standyourground" site"

There are almost too many companies to mention... (Score:1)

here in the states, Capital One is one that comes to mind. Lately, every Cap One commerical features some man getting pummeled. In one, after getting beaten up, falling to the ground and landing under a pink feather boa and tierra (emasculating anyone?), his wife (of course) promptly defends him and beats up the "assailant."

It has reached the stage where I cant watch television for five minutes without being offended by the misandry. This applies to commercials, post 1980 movies, news broadcasts, documentaries, "soaps" and sit-coms.

On average I watch about five minutes of television a day. So it's good to hear about these things on this board.

I totally agree that Capital One is pretty much out of control. Each ad starts with a dumbass who doesn't use Capital One(always a white male) and someone who's "in the know" and uses Capital One. I've seen that ad where that beast thing, or whatever it is, is beating the hell out of that guy. There is also another one showing a really cocky jackass(white male)getting rolled over by a huge runaway snowball. Another one shows a man getting catapulted out of site when he doesn't use a Capital One card. Again, just imagine if women were put in these positions. These ads make me so angry. We really need to create a page listing the ads and offending companies. Then just find ways to advertise the page to maximize hits. If I had the expertise to create the page I would. Are there pages that already do this?

If someone out there knows how to and with a little dough we could get it some exposure (come up on search engines, links to other sites etc.) I'd gladly donate a few bucks a month for the cause.

We have been keeping track of the companies that show commercials that are anti-male and have a web page here that keeps track of them and links back to the MANN page that explains the misandry. We encourage people to boycott those companies.

I just updated the page tonight to include the Walls Ice Cream link. If you have ideas about other companies submit a story for MANN. Capital One is a great idea to submit.

I'm only one guy, and as a friend of mine used to complain jokingly in the Navy, "I can't do it all. I wish somebody else would do something." ...as if he were the only guy doing anything. "Give me a break." I would reply, "You're a workaholic. I'd rather be playing."

Anyhow here's what I've been doing in California (among a few other things). "T-shirts"

#1 I photographed the State Capitol in Sacramento with a digital camera, bought a little $79. Cannon printer at Fry's, bought T-shirt transfers at Staples, and then created a doc in Microsoft Word. I use the Avery brand of T-shirt transfers.

I printed the .doc onto the transfer and ironed it onto the T-shirt. Wala, I'm a bill board. I've done white T-shirts, Black T-shirts, Tan T-shirts, Sky Blue T-shirts, etc. I try to get the heaviest T-shirt material I can find, and so far, my favorite is a brand called Route 66 that I get at K-Mart. I also get T-shirts at Target, but their not quite as heavy.

Oh yea, above the beautiful picture of my state capitol there are words that say: CALIFORNIA IS A SEXIST HOSTILE ENVIRONMENT TOWARDS MEN. Below the picture it says simply: State Capitol - Sacramento California.

#2 When I testified before the L.A. County Board of Supv's. I wore one that said MEN's COMMISSION NOW! in red, white and blue. ...also did that on Word, setting background and foreground colors to my taste. I completely created that document in my word processor and it looked great!

#3 I scanned a button of Abe Lincoln, that I got at a collectibles store that was made in 1909 (no copyright) and wrote on that one THE 1st KNOWN PRESIDENTIAL VICTIM OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.

Do I get comments when I go out and about Los Angeles wearing this garb? Absolutely, the vast majority is extremely positive and the majority is from men. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten a thumbs up from another guy or "it's about time" comment. I wore one on Sunday that I did backwards. I had the name of the MEN’s rights group I’m a part of on the front and a security guard shouted at me. “Hey, I’ve heard about you guys. Way to go.” I basically answered his questions, and gave him a flyer. It was fun. Oh yea, when I wear these T-shirts I always bring a flyer or two, because “inquiring minds want to know.”

What's my next idea? Simple, photograph a stop sign - any stop sign. Insert picture and add the words Male Bashing! Oh yea, that'll raise a few eyebrows. Red's a real attention getter. Size of the iron on? 8 1/2 X 11.

What plans do I have for communicating on T-shirts in the future? Unlimited! I have not yet begun to communicate. This is something anyone can do, and your taking it to the public just like any other advertiser using the T-shirt medium. Have fun, but observe all the laws, mostly copyright. Don't slander or libel anyone or anything. If in doubt don't do it. There's so much that you can do legally, just begin there.

You may have some frustrations. Printing and ironing on the black or colored T shirt transfers is different from the white transfers My worst frustration was ironing a patch on upside down, but now I have another shirt for yard work. I noticed the white transfer sheets also pick up the color of the background of the T-shirt in areas that are supposed to be white (only an issue on colored T-shirts). Dark T-shirt transfers work on any color, but they are trickier to get the hang of and a little more expensive. Lastly iron on in a well ventilated area, although the smell is not too bad from the iron on process.

Let’s see, hmmm, STOP MALE BASHING ADVERTISERS DON’T BUY THEIR BIGOTRY OR PRODUCTS! Substitute SERVICES for PRODUCTS in case of insurance companies or financial institutions. I wouldn’t go any further than that. It gets the point across, and peaks the curiosity.

It’s a really feeling of EMPOWERMENT the 1st time you wear your own T-shirt made with your own hands.

Speaking of EMPOWERMENT, I have a whole series of signs I’ve done using that word and MEN, but that’s another post. O.K. here’s one.
EMPOWER MEN TO
REPORT FEMALE BATTERERS.

Have Fun, Ray
