Frankly, I'd like to see men and women held equally accountable in these cases, not equally free from responsibility for the lives of their children. Granted, this guy had no intent to abuse his son. I'd also grant that police and courts have tended to be harder on men in these situations than on women. But still, exposing your child to harm and death deserves more than a slap on the wrist whether you are male or female. Maybe there are more extenuating circumstances than listed in the article, but being "overworked and exhausted" doesn't excuse this kind of negligence, if you ask me.

This guy wasn't negligent, he was being HUMAN! I realize that we are talking about an innocent human life here, but the guy completely forgot the child among all his other thoughts. Easy to do if he had a lot of problems on his mind and the child in the back seat was totally silent. And besides, he's only a man!
This has never happened to me in the past with my son, but it sure has with other things. Depending on how busy his mind was and how stressed he was, I can totally understand it.
I don't like this anymore than anyone else, but we men are HUMAN and shouldn't be put in jail for that. Now if it was the mother, that would be a whole 'nuther story! After all, we all know that children are a woman's primary responsibility and since they get so many concessions and privileges in life to support them in this endeavor, they SHOULD be held to a much higher level of responsibility. Women in the same case should go to jail... big time! Perhaps this child's mother should go to jail for leaving the child in the care of a man and not fulfilling her government-assigned position of responsibility to her child by checking up on her child's welfare in time to catch this less-than-perfect man's mistake!

No, there's no excuse, but that's the point. For years upon years upon years there's been the "But I have Boobs!" defense when it comes to crimes committed by women.
As with many other things feminist, it was only a matter of time before this turned into an across the board cheapening of life. It's not just the pheminists alone who can eat a slice of the blame pie for this either. All the knee-jerk, reflexive tendancy to jump to the defense of a woman, to "not be judgemental" and to piss and moan about how "nobody knows how hard it is to be a woman" can have this laid right at their doorstep.
Well, not it appears it has become a legal doctrine that since so many low sentences have been handed out, it's the way it should be.
Be sure to write your local chapter of NOW and thank them, y'hear?

Yes, I thought the same thing about this man. Who could do something so damn stupid? But then I remembered that a couple of women did this same thing and got off. You will notice nothing in the article refers to these two recent child deaths caused by female stupidity.
And could there be an evil ulterior motive for the media to post this story the day before Father's Day? Nahhh...the media could never stoop that damn low!
