Web Links Anonymous User writes "Stop Prisoner Rape http://www.spr.org/ Their campaign is to pass THE PRISON RAPE REDUCTION ACT OF 2003 (H.R. 1707) I was very heartened to see this organization. Usually men being raped in prison is considered something which is laughed-at as hilarious."

Thanks for the article and link. This problem has been a thorn in my side for a long time and am always incredulous at the number of idiots (Jay Leno being one who immediately comes to mind) who often use this subject as joke material on TV.

I linked to the website and sent a personalized e-mail of support for this bill to President Bush and Attorney General Ashcroft.

I suspect that people treat prison rape as a joke because it allows them to avoid the reality of men being repeatedly and violently forced to have sex, day after day after day.

If people actually stopped and seriously considered prison rape they would feel at least upset, probably sickened.

I think the best we can do, the next time somebody makes a joke about it, is to politely point out that "no, that's not funny. think about it. come on. just think." if they do I bet they will probably change their attitude towards prison rape pretty quickly. Or at least I hope so.

It's not funny for a bunch of reasons; but it's also used in a subtle fashion to keep reminding people of the lie that "Men aren't victims of sex crimes, they're the perpetrators of it."

That's where my ass really gets chaffed.

The standard response would be "who cares, they are criminals?" However, when told of female prisoners being raped, the standard response would turn to "oh! well,...that's horrible."

I agree that by simply pointing out that prison rape isn't "justice" we can do our part. After all, "no means no, children"
