Hormone Replacement Therapy for our older brothers

Men's Health rage writes "For years, women have benefited from hormone replacement therapy (estrogen and progesterone), and as usual there was no equivalent for the growing number of men getting older....but recently HRT for men has become the norm, and in the future men will have full access to male hormones and all their health benefices : growth of muscle mass, increase of bone density, improvement of cognitive abilities (spatial, logical and scientist skills), reinforcement of self-confidence. So for all our older brothers on this site who are in their 50's or 60's, do not forget to visit your physician and ask for the prescription. By the way...whatever your age is, don't forget to eat clean food, and not too much, to take a daily multivitamin and minerals, and to avoid alcohol and smoking.

HRT is only for guys over 50. Beginning to take testosterone or DHEA earlier could be dangerous in the (very) long run for the prostate, and your body doesn't require it anyway.

For further information, you can always go to men's health forums, which are a great place to discuss health issues (www.menshealth.com).

I've heard lately that there were proposals in Australia to create the equivalent of gynecology for males, so that they could be followed by a physician all life long and be more aware of taking care of their own health.....men's health is really the only field I'm really optimistic about for the coming years.

Hasn't the use of HRT for women been discredited lately (see for example this link from the Men's News Daily archive). Is there any reason to think it will work any better for men? I'm not trying to start a flame war here, I just want to find out the facts from anyone who might have more knowledge than I do. Maybe men haven't missed out on as much as we might think?

As for the possibility of the creation of a men's health specialty, that's great news! I hope it comes to pass!
