MSN may NOT hate men so much after all

Men's Health Thundercloud. writes "I couldn't believe my eyes, when I saw on MSN's homepage an article on MEN'S health. Not women's as is the norm, but MEN'S! The article is entitled; "Why men die sooner". They covered all kinds of things that the regular news won't even let see the light of day. Includeing MANY things we have discussed here at MANN. They compared the life spans of Black and White men, But left out American-Indians, American-Asians and other American men, as usual. (At least Hispanic men were mentioned, albeit breifly.) This is a step in the right direction. We should continue to protest MSN when they do their anti-man stuff, But we should also praise them when they do things like this! If you want to check it out, here's the link; http://www.msn.com"

Thundercloud,

Good to see you still kicking butt.

This is definately a step in the right direction for MSN. Maybe the MSNhatesmen thing is working.

I observed something cool yesterday myself. I stopped by a health food store I had never been to, and came upon the "Women's Health" section. The first thing I snarled to myself, being used to men getting the short shrift in just about everything, was "Typical. Only women matter." But, wouldn't you know it, I turned around and down the aisle was the MEN'S health section, which was at least as big as the women's one. Talk about a smile coming to my face! And the men's section had plenty of preventives as well as the muscle building stuff we love to use.

It's turning around, men. Little by little. But we must always remember: power never relinquishes anything without a fight. If we want change, we must make change, not beg for it. Let's keep it up!

Freebird,
Let me geuss, You read my rant in the "Doritoes" thread.

Well, I can't say for sure what my future will be in the men's movement. But untill I make any firm desisions, I'll be staying put, and fighting just as hard.

The fact that you say you saw an actual "MEN'S HEALTH SECTION", does give me pause for thought.

Thundercloud,

I can testify - under oath - that said MEN'S health section exists in said health food store, and that the ol' Freebird will pay a return trip.

A few weeks ago, I read a blurb in USA Today saying that TNN, formerly the Nashville Network, was in the process of changing - are you sitting down? - a MALE- oriented format. Yes, you read that right. I'll believe it when I see it, however, especially since MTV Networks owns and operates it. Still, this may be a further sign things are turning around....but there is still a lot to do. Keep fighting, you have allies here.

Freebird,

TNN going with a male-oriented format, is actualy very REVOLUTIONARY for the times we live in.
If it DOES come about, I wonder how long it will be on the air, before the fem-squad starts screaming about it discriminating against women.
Heck, knowing them, they're probably sreaming about it already. (while they watch LIFETIME, of course...,)

Thndercloud,

If they did raise hell about ONE male-oriented station, that's when I'm gonna lose it completely. It isn't just Lifetime they have, but Oxygen, WE, SOAPS, the multitudes or shopping channels, and those are just the channels I can name off the top of my head which are entirely geared toward women. That doesn't include the fact that most of the rest's programming is female-centered. Geez, no wonder guys like you and me spend so much time on the net. To paraphrase Springsteen "500 channels and nothing on......BOOM!!"

Freebird,
Yeah the net's about the only medium where I can tell about how I feel as a man, Not be told HOW to feel as a man.
As I've said before, I know we have "other fish to fry", but dealing with the media and it's constant anti-male messages SHOULD be a top priority, for us.
If you happen to notice, I spend a great deal of time monitoring the media, from the news to the "entertainment" media.
And try to bring the garbage they spew to the attention of men. (That is if they haven't already noticed.)

Oh, ONE more thing.
MSN seems to be back to their old tricks.
I just saw an article on there called;
"WHY MEN OGLE OTHER WOMEN."
Of course there is no mention as to why WOMEN ogel other MEN!
In any realationship, I was in, my girlfriend(s) looked at other guys. I just never made a big deal out of it.

Thundercloud,

Yup, no surprise there. I wonder if there is an equivalent article on how women objectify men not only as sex objects, but also as success objects?

Speaking of the media, have you ever been to the askmen.com website? There are a few decent articles there, but I get really turned off with all the emphasis upon how to win the woman, looking good to women, etc. Why do they think women are automatically the be all and end all of every man's life? I think we can be our own men and address our issues on our terms, and not let women lead us around by the shorts.

Yeah, I've been to askmen.com.
But it's been a long time ago. I stopped going just for the reason you mentioned. But, I don't know, I may go back again.
As far as "winning women", Isn't that actually when you LOSE...?
