I would definitely love to see a fair analysis of this issue but have a feeling that even if there is mention of anti-male ads they will be portrayed as the exception or not as harmful.
By the way, has anyone seen Michelob Light's "response" to the aforementioned catfight commercial? In it, a man is hit in the croch with a golf ball and has a piano dropped on his head, crushing him.
I'm sure it doesn't need to be said but I will anyway...everyone join in..."I bet they would never show the same ad with the genders reversed."
It disgusts me. No more Mich Light for me.

I don't have cable so I don't get to enjoy misandry as much as others may. I only get one channel and I basically just watch the simpsons, and they make fun of everyone just as it should be.

Homer and Bart= Irresponsible and stupid
Marge and Lisa= Responsible and intelligent
I don't think I've ever seen a stupid female character on the Simpsons...could be wrong though.

I have seen the Simpsons MANY times, and No, I can't remember EVER seeing a female character depicted as "stupid".
And I thought long and hard about that before makeing this post.
In fact every man on that show seems to be an idiot, or deficient in some way or another.
The only male character who comes off with even half a brain is the Simpson's family doctor, 'Dr. Hibbert'. All the other male characters are just plain morons.

While Ned is overly zealous when it comes to religion, he's not an idiot. Niether are Smithers, Skinner, Rev Lovejoy or Apu.
But I agree with the other point: I can't remember any female on the show that was a bumbling idiot.

Apparently you guys don't watch the show too closely. Marge's two mega smoking misanthropic sisters and Principal Skinner's controlling mother aren't portrayed too complimentary. Lets not forget Barts frustrated middle aged teacher.
They also make fun from time to time of various over ambitious career woman and even Lisa is portrayed as an overthinking fool sometimes.
Matt Groening isn't afraid of anything including fems.

(imagine this with a fake Indian Indian (as oposed to your Indian) accent:
"Apu, if I don't make it back from this bank run, just promise me you wont sleep with my wife"
"I promise nothing"
Apu is the clerk at the Quicky-Mart.

Anyone know the name of the guy who runs the comic book store...?

((("The comic book Guy. Seriously.")))
I believe it. That's the only name I've ever heard him called.
Anyway, getting back on-topic. I saw the segment on 'The Pulse' this thread addressed.
No, no one asked the question; "Why all the flack about ONE incident of "female-bashing" when all we usualy see is male-bashing?".
However, I am a bit disturbed by what was said by the producers of this commercial and those companies that plan to emitate it, and that is; that we are going to see MORE of this sort of thing degrading women.
I don't know about the rest of you but I don't want to see women being degraded and humiliated any more than I want to see men treated that way.
My hope is that we WON'T see more female-bashing in the media and that we see the end of male-bashing in the media as well.
Here's an Earth shattering idea. Why don't the media just stop picking out ANY group of people to denegrade, piriod...?

I said "I don't think I've ever seen a stupid female character on the Simpsons...could be wrong though."
I didn't say every female was portrayed in a complimentary way. Actually, the only "stupid" female I can think of is Bandene(spelling?). She's Cletus'(the slack jawed yokal)wife. But I think that is more of a crack on rednecks than women.

I guess I don't watch the Simpsons as much as I thought.
I have no idea who "Cletus the slack jawed yokal" is. And I still don't know what the hell an "apu" is.

Marge's two mega smoking misanthropic sisters
Not depicted as stupid nor as people who are laughed at. Homer is afraid of them and the usually seem to get their way.
and Principal Skinner's controlling mother
Not depcited as stupid. She too has a man under her power.
aren't portrayed too complimentary. Lets not forget Barts frustrated middle aged teacher.
Not depicted as stupid. How often are her foibles held up to ridicule compared to the number of times Homer's and Bart's are?
All the characters you provided as examples of negative portrayals of women are minor characters. Similarly all the not-so-negative male characters that have been posted were minor characters.
While the pattern is infrequently reversed, the overwhelming sex bias in the portrayal of characters in The Simpsons is
men: lazy, irresponsible, stupid and impotent if not greedy and exploitative
women: hard working, responsible, clever and dominant
cheers,
Tim

Actually, one of my favorite eposode was one where Lisa actually sees things, and herself, from Homers point of veiw(As a result of some "Out of body" theripy thing) and her first comment when she snaps out of it is "I didn't know I could be such a brat!".
(Afterwords, she stops trying to talk Homer into doing things SHE wants to do, and puts up with something HE wants to do.)

Yeah!
I remember that episode.
That's the one where Homer and Lisa want to use the 'sensory deprivation tanks', and Homer asks the ladie shop-keep; "Can you pee in it...?"
That was funny, I laughed!

Actually, the thing I liked about Homer is that every once in a while, he hits a real geneus idea, or line, that (Sadly) seems to go unnoticed among everyone else.
Example:
"I'm not a bad man, I work hard and I love my kids. So why should I spend every Sunday morning being told that I'm going to Hell?"
Unfortunatly, he hasn't really done anything like that in recent seasons, and people tend to concentrate on his stupidity.
I miss the Stupid-yet-not-stupid Homer of the shows past.

Yeah, The episodes around season three to five were always the best, I've always thought.
Now-a-days the Simpsons tend to preach a bit. Usualy from a rather liberal-left stand-point.
What is it about media-liberals and the 1960's, incidently? They refrence that decade CONSTANTLY and show 'flash backs' to it, and quote philosiphy from it, Etc, Etc.
Weird.
-Thundercloud.
Ps. Did ANYONE else see that instalment of "the PULSE" this thread was ORIGIONALY about...?
