News Luek writes "Last year in the US it was Derrick Miller who publically killed himself in California over an outrageous child support order. Now in Canada, Darren White has committed suicide because of the same misandric burden. Just when will this insanity end? The story"

Note: this story is three years old. Darren White killed himself in 2000.

It is no less tragic because of that though.

This is true.

But the real story is has there been any reform or change in the systems that caused their deaths?

I don't see any unfortunantly!

I, too, considered the White case a perfect example of how unfair and biased the family court system is. I still think that the family court system is unfair and biased, but after reading this article by Michelle Landsberg, from the Fathers Are Capable Too (F.A.C.T.) website, I'm no longer so sure.

I still consider the "family court" systems in Canada and the U.S. to be enormously biased, but I don't think that Darrin White should be a poster boy for reform. Perhaps Andrew Renouf is a better example to use.

Sorry. Long night last night. The "I'm no longer so sure" ending on the first paragraph really should have led into the second paragraph. The thing I'm not sure about is whether Darrin White was completely screwed over; I'm still sure that Canada's family court system sucks.

I need more coffee.

Hi BusterB: After reading your post I took the liberty of researching the Fathers Are Capable Too website because your post seemed to imply that (F.A.C.T.) endorsed the article by Michelle Landsberg of the Toronto Star that you cited. F.A.C.T. DOES NOT endorse the article, and goes on to say regarding Landsberg:

"The old bigot is at it again."

And what F.A.C.T. has to say about the Toronto Star:

"Start of the Toronto Star bigotted series on deadbeats -- only dads."

"Rehash of the incorrect and made-up stats,...The Star really is a wretched paper."

"Of course, the Star can't figure out why prventing someone from making any money doesn't help. These are the jailers -- again upset that a man on welfare lives with his parents."

I am not completely sure of the actual true facts in the Darrin White case, however, I am completely certain that F.A.C.T. does not endorse Michelle Landsberg nor the Toronto Star.

Thanks for doing a better job of research than I did. Google is often my friend, but apparently sometimes it obscures context.

So, was Darrin White a martyr, or was he someone so traumatized by the very idea of divorce that he tried to manipulate the court system and, when he failed, became drastically depressed? I admit that I don't know. He was probably someone in between these two extremes.

The bottom line for me is that I can easily see myself in his shoes. I can see myself becoming desperately depressed over losing everything I ever had to a "woman scorned," having my life torn apart and my future tossed in the trashcan. "For the good of the children," of course, wink, wink.

I refer to the family court system as "the Daddy killing business." Nonetheless, I'd really like to know how many people (broken down by sex) kill themselves after a divorce settlement versus after, say, being sued.

We need a name for this, like Overtaxed Father Syndrome or something.
