Hmm - the writer seems to believe Augusta is "morally wrong". Her main issue with Burke is her methodology and the fights that she picks.

If Augusta are morally wrong, then we're back to the staple question that no-one has yet answered. Why would it be legal and acceptable to have a "female only" private club but not a "male only" private club?

Or if a legal precedent were to be set on this issue by a test case which forced a private club into accepting a woman, presumably the same would apply in reverse and there would be no more female only gyms, car parks, taxi services and hotels?

Saying it's "morally wrong" is something I've noticed women columnists use alot when their beliefs get comprimised, I remember when Andrea Yates did those murders and Cathy Young, Kathleen Parker and Debra Saunders said Russell Yates was "morally guilty" for those crimes, I think it's just a piss poor excuse for the columnist's control freakery.

It isn't a question of Augusta National. It is a question of Burk's degradation of the argument. ESPN, a proponent of opening Augusta to women, actually running an article attacking the posture and character of this ill-mannered hypocrite is a big step forward.

Now, if we can just get them to admit title IX is poorly conceived...

The author states, "I do believe it (barring women from Augusta) is morally wrong."

This is totalitarian garbage. The fact is there is nothing morally wrong with men having times and places when and where they can get away from females.

It also misrepresents the facts. Nowhere in Augusta's charter does it say women are excluded. They just haven't voted one in yet.

I guess she doesn't care that women can never be drafted. How convenient that she would not mention this. Morally wrong? Bullshit. The L in LPGA stands for Ladies'. Do you see any men scrambling to get into THAT golfer's association? I don't think so.

Equating gender preference to racism... I don't know about this one... but even if it is as bad, who cares? Hint hint: PRIVATE CLUB. If it was government-funded it would matter but it isn't.

Martha sez:""It's an insult to the 250,000 women serving in the United States military," she said at a news conference in New York City. "It's appalling that the women who are willing to lay down their lives for democratic ideals should be shut out of this club.""

Da Freebird says: Hey Martha, did you forget about the NUMEROUS colleges, universities, health clubs, GOLF clubs like this one: http://members.aol.com/golfatstonecreek/ladiesclub .htm , hiking clubs, spas that do not allow men? It's REALLY appalling that literally HUNDREDS of such exclusive entities exist, even Race for the Cure which I cannot participate in (even though my mother died of cancer) because of my gender, yet you rail against one of the ONLY male-only (and PRIVATE) entities left.

Your hatred of men is too transparent to fool adults.

How hypocritical can you get?!?!?
