The V-Monologues

News Bill Kuhl writes "Hey guys. Wendy McElroy of ifeminists.com just published an article of mine. It's about a "mini-protest" I performed at a performance of the Vagina Monologues a couple years ago. I thought it was especially appropriate now cause during Valentines (or V-day as the feminists are calling it) there will be many performances of the Monologues to coincide with V-day, to generate contempt instead of love for men. If you just go to the first page of Wendy's site it's on the right side,"My Monologues Mini-Protest." I think you'll like it."

You should go on an national or even international tour, like the Vagina Monologue.

Dialogue: it's better than monologue. Men need to start speaking up.

OK, so I wouldn't go myself! I was curious about the V mono., but I have never heard it. I thank you for sharing. It reminds me of the women that I knew in the 70s, and I always thought that they got smarter!

Interesting article. I commend you on having the guts to put your money where your mouth is and actually make a protest, especially on your own.

One criticism I would make is that you decided to protest before really knowing the facts about the play and in the end didn't even stay to see the whole thing.

Now don't get me wrong, I suspect the play is all you say it is, but personally I wouldn't protest or write an article about it until I knew for sure, and then I would criticize it on specific points.

Why? Partly to avoid making a fool out of myself in case I got something wrong, but mostly to be fair and give even the Devil a fair go, so as to avoid looking like a mere knee-jerk opponent of feminism.

I think the best thing the Men's Movement has going for it is a respect for the facts and a willingness to be fair to women, not just promote a one-sided, self-serving agenda. That's why I think it's important to gather all the facts before protesting this kind of thing, so that people can see the specific reasons we're against it, rather than have them assume we're just automatically against anything with a feminist label on it.

How many times have you had a person become open-minded about men's issues when they hear the details of a specific issue, yet have others write you off as a "cook" or "sexist" if you just criticize feminism in general?

I hope this is taken the right way, I'm trying to offer constructive criticisism, not antagonize people.

Peace.

I agree with you but I would also like to point out that the entire text of the Vagina Monologues is also available online so we can all check it out. Check out some of Wendy McElroy's old columns about it or just type the name into Google.

Typo correction:

"Cook" should be "kook."

I don't think criticizing feminism will get you labelled a chef. ;-)

I agree. Women/feminists aren't the enemy; misandrists are. A lot of women and feminists agree with the points made on this website. I think if we present ourselves as an "equal rights for all" group, pointing out the injustices that both males and females face, I don't see how (too many) people can be against us.
