Announcements Thompson & Sacks ask 'Does NOW Stand for Equality?' on their new, live call-in show.

Deborah Watkins, former president of the Tarrant County (Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas) chapter of the National Organization for Women, left NOW to become president of the Dallas-Ft. Worth Chapter of the National Coalition of Free Men. What prompted Ms. Watkins to make such a dramatic transition? You can find out by joining Thompson & Sacks as we ask "Does NOW Stand for Equality?" on our live call-in show on MND radio. The show will began at 9 PM EST/6 PM PST (Tuesday, November 5).

I've known Deb for 3 years now as a fellow officer in the DFW NCFM. I've never met anyone--man or woman--more committed to fairness and equality, sexists of any stripe be damned.

I can't wait for the show--should be a keeper.

Does NOW stand for equality? Not now, not ever.
Thank you, Ms. Watkins, for your courageous action.

For those of us that missed the talk show could Ms. Watkins write a short essay to summarize why she left NOW and her feelings about gender equality. Thank you

If you see this today (11/6), it is being replayed continuously, allegedly until 8PM tonight at:

I listened live. It was not as good as it could have been, due to a huge swarm of technical problems, it is IMO still worth catching if you can.

If you cannot, the 20 second summary is that she became involved with NOW when they (at least outwardly) truly worked for equality, wanting equal responsibility as well as rights for both men and women, such as draft registration for women and parenting involvement for men. She left to become the primary founder of the DFW NCFM when she discovered to her horror that NOW had become (or [my comment] always had been) not about equality, but as she often puts it "whatever is best for women."

Her primary issues are C4M (she is pro-choice for everyone, men and women) and male bashing in the media. She has also been very active in our chapter activities concerning battered men, veterans and homeless men. She is becoming active lately in Texas Fathers for Equal Rights, as well.

Deb, if you are reading this and I said anything inaccurately my apologies and please correct me, ok?

And of course, as we all know, by the N.O.W's definition; "Whatever is best for women" can only be achieved by bringing about "Whatever is worse for men."
Ah, The NOW gang, Those whacky gals.

The problem isn't really that NOW thinks "whatever is worse for men" is best for women. It seems to fall along the lines of anything for for men has to be bad for women, so must be stopped. This along with the notion that anything good for women must be good for all ends up creating a juggernaught that steamrolls over men and their rights unless there is a balancing force/voice, this is where I feel that the men's movement comes in.
