"Deadbeat Dad" Gets Vasectomy as Part of Plea Agreement
posted by Scott on Tuesday August 20, @12:15PM

News scottAsinclair writes sent in this article from the Nando Times, about a man who fell behind $1,000 in child support. In order to try to get leniency from the court, the man underwent a vasectomy. It is not clear whether the man received any direct order by the court to get the vasectomy, but he apparently was under the impression that this would help his case. scotAsinclair writes, "I couldn't believe this. This is like China."

Any one here ever read "ANIMAL FARM" by George Orwell?
You know, It's the storie where the animals "overthrow" the Farmer, because they found his "system of government" un-fair.
Then they form their OWN government.
On the Barn door they write; "ALL ANIMALS ARE EQUAL."
But then the Pigs come along and re-write the message on the door to read...; "ALL ANIMALS ARE EQUAL... BUT SOME ANIMALS ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS..."
Sound familiar?
After reading about this "Deadbeat Dad" I thought..., "Why bother reading ANIMAL FARM?
we're LIVING it..."

I think it's possible this guy said to himself, "I've been royally screwed over by the whole reproduction thing, so I want a vasectomy... Wait, maybe I can turn this to my advantage..."

I don't think this idea of getting a vasectomy is going to have any weight with the court, since he can't undo anything by having a vasectomy. Maybe he means to show an intention for future responsibility? Hard to say.

That's what I was thinking. Just try to get the big V if you're under 40, not married and have no children. Maybe he wanted a vasectomy years ago, but was told you're too young, you'll change your mind when you meet the right woman, and other such nonsense.

IMO if a doctor refuses to give a man a vasectomy, and he ends up in an unwanted pregnancy as a result, he should be able to sue the doctor and make him or her pay the child support.

How much does a vasectomy cost? Did he get it free due to the court? I would figure the judge wouldn't like that he has money to cut himself but not for the child support.

I found out after the fact that there is about 1 3% increase in the probability of getting testicular cancer after a vasectomy. I was single at 23, about 26 years ago. I don't think it was a real option then, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn;t have done it.

What you might do is preserve your sperm cryogenically, then go off-shore to get the procedure, if you are that firmly set on it.

It depends who you ask.
A lot of sources say that the risk of testicular cancer does not go up after a vasectomy.

Can you imagine the reaction there would be if a mother felt that 'it would benefit her' in court if she were to have her tubes snipped?

First time I went in for a vasectomy, I was told I needed my (then) wife's "consent." Even for a reversible procedure. I asked if she needed my consent to get her tubes tied or anything. The shrug and look on the doctor's face was all I needed to know.

Second time I went in for one, I too was told that at 28, with "only" one child I was too young. Translation, "You've still got a lot of years left in you to be a meal ticket if some woman picks you to be daddy for her kids." They suggested abstinence.

(Hmmm. How come it's misogynistic to suggest abstinece for women who don't want to be pregnant? Of yeah, slutting around and being a "mother" are their god(dess) give basic freedoms. How silly of me.)

I finally found a doctor who would do this, if I paid cash, gave him a false name, and signed a paper saying I wasn't married. I think he was giving me a hint. Lie about your age, lie about your name, pay cash, and lie about your marital status.

Accusing someone of "cheating" in a rigged game is ridiculous.
