On-line Chat About Realities of Pornography Industry
posted by Scott on Sunday June 16, @05:25PM
from the news dept.
News Tonight, Sunday the 16th, at 9:00 p.m. EDT join Wendy McElroy and "Mason" in the free ifeminists/mensactivism chat room to discuss the realities of the pornography industry. Wendy has done a lot of research in this area and this is a rare opportunity to speak with "Mason", who I assume is a person who works or has worked in pornography. Is pornography really exploitation of women? Men? Join this chat and find out.

Too late to take part in the discussion but one thing is really getting to me. The notion that pornography exploits women.

Excuuuuuuse me, but don't every porn film I have seen it is not only women who are being shagged. So aren't men being exploited too?

No, you silly man, men enjoy it, whereas women are harassed and coerced into it - because women are chaste while men think it's great. Yeah right. All part of this amazingly un-feminist ideal that women have very little freewill and men control all aspects of their lives.

One way pornography is harmful is the fantasy in the minds of men. The fantasy of pornography is that all women want to sleep with men all the time, which is neither good nor true.

My feeling is that "exploitation " is a seperate entity that has its own agenda, in its roll of the sex industry (all parts of it).

Both men and women are being exploited by this, in one way or another.

And I just dont mean men the payer and the woman the payee, I think that many women pay for sex and porn and this is rising even more.

Willing adults should be allowed to do what they want, concerning this.

I have always thought of Cosmo as porn for women.

btw fuck the feminist, much like their ass they couldnt find a clue with both hands.

                                                men being exploited too?

"Shagging" is generally considered something
men do to women. The men are, according to
consensus values, very lucky if not exploiters
themselves.

Not that we go much on consensus values here.

If you want to have a rational discussion
of the issue it is important to know what
you are saying. "exploit" is used in two
senses: to make use of (eg to exploit the
lie of the land in landscaping a garden) and
to make use of unfairly, to take advantage of
another's weakness, ignorance or disadvantage.

Obviously men, women, cameras and ky jelly are
all exploited in the making of pornography
in the first sense. In the second sense any
of the human participants might be exploited
in the second sense (or might not) depending
on their circumstances.

What is essentially exploited is the
(overwhelmingly) male customers' unmet
social/sexual needs. Without that porn
would be pointless. [joke opp.]

Porn does not satisfy me,

and a fifteen minute bout with a hooker doesnt either.

I need a woman all night long.

Is this on-topic?

I've noticed that discussions of the politics
of pornography tend to attract men who want
to discuss their masturbation fantasies or
engage in "I'm more studly than you"
one-upmanship.

No wonder women say men are "dick-led".

cheers,

Huh??

one-upmanship?? If thats how you feel about it, thats how you feel.

I think in fact it is on topic,

and my point that went over your head, was, something is missing inside that 15 minute affair including the time it takes to exchange money.

I think it is a sad thing, and an earlier post by someone had mentioned something about the needs men have for sex being denied.

I think it goes deeper.

Pornography hurts men and women both. As a guy, even looking at it has damaged my relationships.
