This tells a whole lot about the psychology underlying the sentencing disparities and special treatment given to women in US courts.

This article follows on the heels of another article, recently linked to from here, about a proposal to send fewer women but not fewer men to prison in the UK.
And many people still fail to realize that women are the absolute dictators of society! So-called governments are the puppets of our ruthless, feminist rulers.

I do believe that this kills two birds with one stone. It frees up prison space for male criminals and it could get kuddos from feminist groups as a wonderful human rights move. The sad aspect of this story (other than the boys over sixteen and men not included in the amnisty is that when people read this story in the population they will consider it a step in the right direction and not understand the bigger picture.

To save time and money... Rather than put women in prison and then let them out, I propose the following. Whenever a woman is convicted of a crime, the government should arrest her nearest living male relative and stone him to death in the town square. Then women can get together to lament how terribly they are oppressed by the patriarchy.

My wife just pointed out that the male guards in the women's prisons in Russia must be getting very lucky these days. If a woman gets pregnant, she's let out of prison.
Let's see then, if she's in for killing her child, they'll let her out when she has another child. If she doesn't want that child, she kills it and gets sent to prison where she gets pregnant again, and they let her out and...
Man, I gotta go work out. This article is just too much.

Prison is definitely one place in which I believe the sexes should be segregated. Female prisons should have female guards. Male prisons should have male guards. There have been countless women who have become pregnant by male guards while doing time. There have also been countless lawsuits by men who have charged female guards with sexual harassment in prison (most of those get tossed out, don't you know).

Here in Australia there is currently a big debate over the imprisonment of asylum seekers. Needless to say, that there is a movement towards releasing the women and children, but leaving the men imprisoned in such terrible conditions.
They either free them all, or none (perhaps the children). Age should be the only factor, not gender.
Although I can see this view not being popular, even among the detainees who would probably prefer the 'fairer sex' being given freedom first.

And yet, DESPITE all this current evidence concerning the way that women are always BETTER treated than men, and all the evidence from History that SUPPORTS this, the western world is still permeated by the propaganda telling everyone that men oppress women, and did so throughout History!
EVEN MEN'S ADVOCATES keep falling for the notion that, historically, men oppressed women.
Well, they may have done.
But they have ALWAYS oppressed men MORE!
Sorry to shout.
But until male advocates recognise that, what we we see today, in terms of men constantly being given the worse deal, is nothing new!
Men have just about always been treated worse than have women.

Thank you, Angry Harry. This is extremely important, and it is something that, as you say, many men's advocates fail to realize. There may have been times and places when men overall had it better than women, but men have almost always had it rougher in society than women.
The claim that men have oppressed women throughout history is THE GREAT, FUNDAMENTAL LIE.
Oops. I shouted too.

The only reason the Russian government is doing this is because of the costs of keeping a huge prison population in times of financial difficulty.
These "freed" Russian women will more than likely wind up homeless and destitute on the street because of the chaotic financial situation now going on in Russia.
So much for "female social privilege."

I suspect your right Luek. Not withstanding elite women, Russia has a long and sad history of treating its people as expendable pawns.

Give Russian male-inmates the choice and I'd bet most of them would leave prison, even though they, too, would probably end up homeless and destitute on the street (in all likelihood with fewer social safety nets than women). Life on the outside might not be a dream come true, but it's probably far better than the "squalid, disease-ridden conditions in which most prisoners live."
The Russian society may be a mess, but within it this is still a case of "female social privilege."
