Oh boo hoo, a man did something foolish on TV. Watch as all the so called "men's activists" read their insecurities into the commercial and call it male bashing. Meanwhile, women are rounded up and forced to act like seals for porn sites. Does anyone give a shit about that here? I doubt it.
I noticed I can no longer visit this site from my home computer, but I can from any other internet connection. Is this how you deal with criticism? Blocking dissent from viewing your web site?

Women rounded up? Forced to act like seals for porn sites? Is there any way I can get a piece of this action?

To the female troll, a few simple questions:
Why do you visit this site?
Are you afraid your monopoly on minds is coming to an end (and you cannot do anything about it)?
Go back to the Ms. Magazine boards and complain about how the patriarchy has prevented you from logging on to this site at home.

We all know that this troll is a man-hating liar. Let's not get distracted by her/him from our important work of fighting for equality and against evil. We already have to deal with too many deranged gender feminists in our struggle outside of this site.

Oh great, another hyperbole feminist rant out of topic...
Ok. First issue is that this website can not stop you from viewing it. The problem is on your side of the connection.
Secondly, rounding woman up like seals for porn? Did you know that women that enter the porn business do it on their own volition? They get boob jobs done, they get in great shape and then go out and market their bodies for the most money that they can get (they even use agents to get them the best jobs). Most of these women live comfortable lives and are not desolate and "out on the street doing drugs". Those women are responsible for their own decisions.
Accountability is not very high value for modern women...
As for the Red Lobster ad, it is part of a disturbing misandric trend - advertisers marketing male idiocy exclusively to sell just about anything. Men know how to laugh at ourselves, but it does get irritating when it is always the man on TV that is an idiot... isn't this in opposition to what the feminist movement was all about? Or is this constant male bashing the only effective thing feminism can accomplish now?

Meanwhile, women are rounded up and forced to act like seals for porn sites. Does anyone give a shit about that here? I doubt it.
When have you ever seen a group of women "rounded up" and forced to go into the porn industry? Is there any proof to your assumptions, or did NOW tell you what to think? I have yet to hear a single shred of proof validating any argument you have ever made on this site.
If a woman is forced to perform sexually against her will, then the proper authorities should be contacted, as that is technically considered rape, as well as being wrong. If she goes into a porn studio, is made aware the sexual acts she will perform will be displayed on a web site, and AGREES to get money for doing it, then it's considered consensual sex. Contrary to what gender feminists like to tell you, rape and consensual sex with a man are not the same thing.
Besides, we're talking about the portrayal of men in commercials, please stick to the point.
I noticed I can no longer visit this site from my home computer, but I can from any other internet connection. Is this how you deal with criticism? Blocking dissent from viewing your web site?
There is no possible way to block an anonymous user from a website, it is something wrong with your computer. Unlike gender feminists, the owners of this site welcome everyone's views, and they state that repeatedly in their posts. So ease up on the blame game, it occurs way too much these days.
Your just due is coming.
The only thing that is due to innocent men is the respect they have been denied for so long.
And there's nothing you can do to stop it.

From the Ms. Magazine message board policy page:

This is just the kind of porn I've been searching for! I have this thing about sexy women in bikinis balancing beach-balls on their noses. I think it started because I had my first erection at Seaworld when I was ten. It's a harmless fetish, though I do seem to get through an awful lot of raw fish.

The male-bashing commercials on television are not going away. It has come to a point now that I have to press mute when the commercial break starts and then I bring back the sound when the television show I am watching returns. I can't watch that stuff anymore. You don't just see it once, the commercials air multiple times per show and again the next day and again and again......
I email the company that is advertized and the television station and if possible the host of the show to tell them that I won't buy their products or watch their show because of those commercials. No effect of course. Men complaining about sexism is called "Whining" by these sexist people.

I wouldn't speak so soon. The Men's Movement is still young, but we're making progress every day against male-bashing. If these companies that create sexist commercials hear from more and more people who disagree with them, then they will eventually stop their misandrist advertisements. It just takes a little determination :) "Stereotypes are devices that save a biased person the trouble of learning."

In spite of our little trollie wollie, I must say that this particular Red Lobster commercial really doesn't bother me that much. The only thing that bothers me about it is the smug wifey who had to be included. If not for her, I really don't think that commercial is anti-male. It doesn't present any specific male stereotypes. It just depicts someone who values Red Lobster shrimp so much that he's upset about there being only one left.
I've seen this commercial several times, and in the beginning I couldn't decide whether it bothered me. Now I think it doesn't.

The guy in the commercial didn't bother me at all. His wife did, but that reflected more poorly on women than on men in my mind. The stupid dads in the Apple Jacks commercials are much worse than this guy who just loves his shrimp.
This was far less painful to watch than those awful "Truth.com" commercials they have on all the time (Kind of off topic but I ramble sometimes). Those actually make me turn the TV off the same way alot of the really bad antimale ones do.

I saw this commercial during one of the rare times that I was watching the boob tube. Like Nightmist, my reaction was pretty neutral regarding the depiction of the man. The depiction of the woman, however...
I think it's time for heterosexual women, who ever want a long-term relationship with a man, to start worrying about this sort of thing. I suspect many men, especially many young men, who are or will soon be part of our egalitarian/masculinist movement, will start to see this as an example of a typical, self-superior bitch. She might be attractive and fun to have sex with a few times, not someone to be stuck with in a long-term relationship, and, again, typical.

It HAS been a little while since I have contibuted to this site, but I'd like to chime in and say, I agree with Nightmist on this one, for the most part anyway. If the woman in this ad is embarassed by her husband's eating habits, what is she doing going out to dinner with him? I saw the ad,and her demeanor was something like, here we go again, like she already knew.
Whenever I hear a woman bashing her husband, the question eventually has to be asked, if the man is so intolerable, why is the woman still with him? That does indeed reflect badly on the woman, not the man.
As for the ad itself, why is the woman even there, except to act embarassed? The commercial doesn't even need her there, otherwise.
But I also agree, if the ad does offend, feel free to go ahead and write to the company. After all, isn't the whole men's movement about speaking our mind?
Those who claim to be brutally honest, enjoy the brutality more than the honesty.

This ad does not bother, it is just stupid. It certainly does not get me to want Red Lobster, but then their food does that alone.
It seems that no Red Lobster can stay open in this area (South Louisiana). Personlly I can get better shrimp at Bubba's All-U-Can Eat greasy spoon.
Remember, this is capitalism, don't like it, don't buy it. And unless you are in the middle of North Dakota, you can likely find better seafood than Red Lobster anyway.

To this I would add: This site is about men's activism. If you don't like an ad, write to them. Tell them you won't buy their product and you'll try to get your friends to boycott them too. You can also write to the programs that use the sponsor. Again, this site is about men's activism.

I posted this ad because it is a part of a disturbing trend. It, standing alone, is not a horrible commercial. But, if you take into consideration the other ads that have bothered us, this one has just enough sting to annoy me. The REAL point is that they would never have reversed genders in this ad. Now, if I could only find a way to post the Circuit City ads. They are EXTREMELY infuriating to me.

That's the REAL problem, Bledso. No individual ad or TV show or movie is insulting to the extreme by itself. It's the trend that's the problem. I haven't seen the Red Lobster ad, yet. But for those who are incluned to complain, if you are insulted enough to complain, then do so.

From reading here over the last few months, it seems that:
Ford Motor Co should be listed for discrimination
Red Lobster
Nike (The Women's World misandry)
Circuit City
others I can't remember because the list wasn't updated.
Companies that try to 'right' the current misandric trends should be updated too, Like Ames Department store...

let us ignore the troll, peeps! If she comes back, Claire and I (as the representative women)will get medieval on her @$$! LOL
It's not that bad, really. Like Nightmist said, it reflects more poorly on women (the SO being the self-centered bitch she is who doesn't understand her hubby's fondness for shrimp and makes him look and feel like an idiot). If this is the New Woman, leave me out. Equality should be equal, and not nagging. :) I've seen more male-bashing stuff on the Simpsons (basically every time Homer opens his mouth...)!

Seriously though, the troll only makes herself look foolish every single time she comes here, so I wouldn't be too concerned about what she says. I guess I do feel sorry for her in a way -- she has so much hatred in her (assuming the troll is a she). Perhaps she was wronged by a man in some way, I don't know; if that's true it's unfortuate. However, there is no excuse for her behaviour towards us. You need your beets -- you recycle, recycle!

I saw this commercial on TV a few weeks ago originally and I thought it was cute, I really don't see any problem with it.

If they would not have run the ad with the genders reversed(and I seriously doubt they would), there is a problem. Like I said, this particular ad is far from the worst I've seen, however, when I see men acting in a way that I know they would never have a woman act, it bothers me. Imagine seeing a man display such "here she goes again" disgust with his significant other? Yes, there are more importatnt issues out there. That doesn't mean minor ones should be ignored. If you feel this ad is totally harmless, that is fine. Some of us see it as a disturbing trend.

As for my 2 cents: I don't find the depiction of the man particuarly offensive. I do, however, dislike the condescending attitude of the wife.
Like another poster said, a test of a biased commercial is how would it play if the genders were reversed.
And as yet another poster commented, its not the individual commercial that is particuarly important, but the weight of the mass of commercials.
If the men's movement is going to be successful, its going to be through grassroots efforts to make advertisers aware that the trend in belittling men is offensive to a major portion of their buying public.

They wouldn't play this with gender reversed, thats true.
But I still say there's nothing wrong with the commercial, rather theres something wrong with the whiny women who would complain if the genders were reversed.
I remember a genital herpes commercial where the herpes ridden woman is also a kickboxer and beating the hell out of some guy. Imagine that one with rolls reversed :)

Hey all, After reading this line, I have to admit I agree. Men are always portrayed in commercials as buffoons. It is entertaining to watch how the commercials make us look, and then when the news comes back on, how men in real life are behaving. I am caucasian, but I think Asian men get it even worse than myself. We see plenty of asian chicks on commercials, but when you see an asian guys he is usually like a sumo wrestler or some other comical guy. Well, thats besides the point.
The thing is, and this is really my point. One of the best things about being a guy is that we can deal with it. We don't spend our time bitching like the chicks do. so whenever I see a dumb guy on a commercial, i think...boy is it great to be a guy!
