A very fine piece, Nightmist. Thanks for sharing this with us. False accusations have become a reign of terror against men. None of us are safe.

What a disaster. It's sad if our legal system makes it safer for a man to sit in a room by
himself than to be with a woman. Time to start talking about this, to women especially and loudly if necessary (but keep a few witnesses handy to avoid false accusations).

I say if you're going to argue with a potentially accusatory individual, make *damn sure* you do it in public. That's pretty much been my philosophy ever since those days.

Problem is, you don't always know who that accusatory individual is going to be. And you don't hafta be a guy, either.
Sadder But Wiser

That's true. It can happen to anyone. And in these days of guilty until proven innocent, the accuser is more often taken at their word if the accusations revolves around violence or sexual assault (particularly if the accused is male and the accuser is female).

Good points, all! No one should have to suffer slander (or is it libel?) just because someone automatically sees someone as a "victim". Good job. :) "Female men's activist" is not an oxymoron.

It's "slander" when spoken and "libel" when written.

Ya know, I'd really like to see a male/masculinity-friendly men's magazine, even if it was published on newsprint. If there's someone out there interested in fronting one, I'd be happy to subscribe.

I'd love to start one, Frank, but I'd need investors as well as advertisers (at least in the beginning) to do it. Subscriptions just about pay the electric bill.

Might want to wait a few months on this idea for exactly that reason. Magazines are having a terrible time right now, in large part because of a dramatic dropoff in advertising revenue. I'm a writer, so I'm acutely aware of this as are my writer-friends.
I do like the idea, though. I wonder whom one would approach for advertising revenue.

I work at a newspaper. BELIEVE me, we're aware of this, too.
Sucks.

Frank, there are some men's organizations that put out journals and newsletters in print. One of which I was extremely impressed with was the Everyman Journal.
Of course, these are almost completely focused on men's rights - perhaps you were referring to a more general interest magazine for men, sans the male bashing found in so many these days?

Happily, this is very, very true. It may simply be because it's safer for women to speak out, but it seems to me that there are at least as many women leading the egalitarian movement as men.
